Conveyance document, Conveyance document, 1863 : sale of Allotment 15, Section 1, Township of Linton : Henry Franks to William Hugill
The land (with improvements) was sold for £650. Henry Franks had purchased the land for £16.15s at the Sale of Special Lands at Linton in 1861. The land, on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets, Linton, was later owned by David McFadzean, and after his death by several generations of the Barr/Greenbank families. It is understood that David McFadzean built the house there in 1873. The RSL Hall was in Clyde Street, Linton, where the Telstra building now stands. The hall was demolished in the 1990s after the opening of the new recreation reserve hall.Small black and white photograph shows a group of hatless men standing to attention at left and a group of mostly children and women seated and standing to right. Four men standing next to the hall in the centre of the photograph appear to be officiating the ceremony. The flag is flying at half-mast. Picture in photograph album donated by Mrs Faull. The plane landed at Linton Park as part of an advertising campaign by Astor Radios in 1928. Information provided by Ron Preston of Linton: "The day the plane landed in Linton Park / late 20s. Fairbanks and Harrison operated a garage in Sussex St opposite Bryant's shop. Fairbanks was married to Carrie Murrell's sister Dorrie and William (Bill) Harrison was married to Dulcie Nicol. Among other things that the garage sold were ASTOR RADIOS. To promote ASTOR RADIO a Gypsy Moth double seater aircraft flew low over towns to advertise. ASTOR RADIO was written under both wings. by Boltes) staying overnight. Both Harrison & Fairbanks were taken up for a ride. The pilot "dive-bombed" the local children, many of them seeking shelter under the bridge, as they were frightened, not having seen a plane up close before." The Shire of Grenville offices in Linton were built n in 1939, and replaced the original Shire Hall which was built in the 1860s. At the time the offices were built, Linton was the headquarters of the Shire of Grenville. The Shire of Grenville ceased to exist in 1993 following municipal amalgamations, and the offices are now the Linton offices of the Golden Plains Shire which has its headquarters at Bannockburn.Colour photograph showing a single-storey cream brick building, with a flagpole and various memorials outside it. School reader, The Victorian Readers, Eighth Book, Second Edition, 1940
Book is part of a set of readers produced for use in Victorian state schools in the early part of the twentieth century. The readers were in use in schools until the 1960s. This reader was owned and used by Des Howard, a son of Linton's librarian Mrs Ella Howard. It was found with books in the former Linton Free Library collection.Book with cloth and board cover, which has been covered in brown paper. The paper cover appears to have been produced by the (Victorian) State Savings Bank specifically as a textbook cover (and advertisement for the bank). Slaughterhouse Hill was so named because Bennett's butchers had a slaughterhouse there.A view of Linton taken from Slaughterhouse Hill to the north-east of the town. Numerous buildings are identifiable in the photograph. In the middle foreground are the railway station, platform and station-master's house. The Grenville Standard building is visible in Clyde Street, and the Post Office and Bank of NSW buildings can be seen near the corner of Clyde and Sussex Streets.
