Book is part of a set of readers produced for use in Victorian state schools in the early part of the twentieth century. The readers were in use in schools until the 1960s.
This reader was owned and used by Des Howard, a son of Linton's librarian Mrs Ella Howard. It was found with books in the former Linton Free Library collection.
Physical description
Book with cloth and board cover, which has been covered in brown paper. The paper cover appears to have been produced by the (Victorian) State Savings Bank specifically as a textbook cover (and advertisement for the bank). Pages 260 p.
Inscriptions & markings
Inscribed at top of title page: "Des Howard".
On front of brown paper cover: "Reader / [Name] Desmond Howard / [Grade] VII / State [School] Linton 880".
"D H / LINTON" hand printed in ink on front endpaper. "LINTON /88" hand printed in ink on rear endpaper".
