Document - Manuscript, Robin Boyd, Why I love Melbourne, 1969
Boyd muses over Melbourne and its "schizophrenic or split-urbanity", exploring the contrasts that make its character. Poses question "Why don't I live in Sydney?", weighing the "humility" of Melbourne versus the arrogance of Sydney. Every creative movement of importance in Australia in the twentieth century had its origins in Melbourne, therefore Melbourne, Boyd argues, is the moral capital of Australia.Original manuscript of an article published in "The Australian", 04.03.1969. This is the first of a series of three articles about Melbourne published on consecutive days (see D023 and D024).Typewritten carbon copy, quarto, 8 pagesPencil annotationsmelbourne, collins street, alexandra avenue, george miles, boomerang, robin boyd, manuscript -

Sculpture (textile): Susan WIRTH (b.1967 Syd AUS), I want to love this country (Murnong), 2017
Nillumbik Prize finalist (2018, 2016, 2015, 2014). The artist lives and works in Nillumbik. Abstract sculpture inspired by the artist attending a local ceremony in Nillumbik to harvest tubers of the Murnong (yam daisy), a traditional staple of the Wurundjeri people. Wirth was also inspired by the writing of Bruce Pascoe. Wirth works intuitively with awareness that meaning may be deciphered through the combination of material/mediums/techniques that she uses randomly. Through the process of experimentation and automatism Wirth allows her work to evolve organically. Wirth is represented in public art collections including: Victorian College of the Arts, Victorian Performing Arts Centre and Ararat Regional Gallery. She also completed a residency at Laughing Waters in 2012. Yellow abstract sculpture woven into a vessel with long tentacles using cotton yarn. Book, Berndt, Ronald. M, Three Faces of Love : Traditional Aboriginal song-poetry, 1976
Three Faces of Love brings to readers the richness and originality of traditional Aboriginal erotic song-poetry. In Professor Berndt's sensitive renderings the poems conjure up the haunting atmosphere of muted eroticism of the north-eastern Arnhem Landers' traditional songs conveying in a very real sense a people's affection for, and oneness with, nature. They open up a whole new world of indigenous Australian literature, part of Australia's literary heritage...xiv, 130 p. : col. ill. ; 20 x 22 cm.Three Faces of Love brings to readers the richness and originality of traditional Aboriginal erotic song-poetry.
