This rug was woven at the Geelong Wool Museum in an elephant print pattern developed in the 1920s. Part of a working exhibit, it was created on a Jacquard loom manufactured in Kidderminster, UK in 1910s, and assembled in Australia. From the pamphlet: This rug was designed by Brinton's Carpets, a company that produced carpets in Geelong until 2008. The design was produced exclusively for the National Wool Museum, and came from an earlier design housed in Brinton's UK Persian Rug Archive and was recoloured for the Australian market. This Rug was produced on a 1910-built Axminster Jacquard Carpet Loom, donated to the Museum by Brintons. It forms the centrepiece of the National Wool Museum, where visitors daily experience this extraordinary machine in operation. The document was written by Marian Kennedy, a signalwoman in the Australian Special Wireless Group in Brisbane in World War Two. This group intercepted Japanese Morse Code messages and their transcriptions were sent to Central Bureau for deciphering. The sheet contains a list of procedure signals for messages in Japanese Kana code. These procedure signals enabled wireless operators to assess the context of the messages and their probable importance. Secrecy was paramount as the Japanese military were unaware that their Kana code had been broken. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries.
