Robin Boyd Foundation
Journal, ATELIER, 1966
Article by Neville Gruzman, UNSW, "Architects of destruction". ATELIER is perhaps a UNSW student newsletter. Robin Boyd’s desk cupboard contained two exercise books (item D482.1-D482.2) and assorted articles, essays and other material regarding the building of the Sydney Opera House, inserted inside the front cover of Walkabout magazine, July 1966 (item P1377). This publication is one of those inserts. Many of these were collected by Boyd’s eldest daughter, Mandie, who recalls that her father was writing a book, but was very disillusioned with the way the entire Opera House saga unfolded. Shuttle, estimate Mid-20th century
Example of a shuttle used for a loom in the weaving process. This shuttle was probably used as an advertising piece for Waddington's company as it is constructed differently to other examples of working shuttles in the museum collection. This shuttle is a a unique item in the collection as a shuttle made for advertising purposes instead of being made for use on a loom. Wooden loom with metal tips on either end. Loom is rectangular. One side has a green sticker. Metal pieces inside loom are not present.WADDINGTON'S/ FOR/ SHUTTLES OF QUALITY/ Phone Bradford 27668waddingston's, weaving, shuttle, loom, advertising, geelong, wool -

Melbourne Legacy
Document, Legacy Club, Melbourne : Alphabetical List of Members 1932 (H16), 1932
An alphabetical list of members of Legacy in 1932, with 170 names. The second list has the member name, their membership number, a business address and personal address. One of the few lists found that include the rank of the Legatee. Early in Legacy's creation it was determined that importance was not to be placed on the rank of the Legatee and all were seen as equals. The notation H16 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. Only the first page of the address list has been scanned as an example. This is one of the first documents that document the early Legacy Club. White foolscap file copy paper with black type x 5 pages of a list of members in 1932 and a file copy list of their phone numbers and addresses.Handwritten H16 in red pen. With the completion of the new school's buildings, it moved to Golden Square in 1962, providing for Forms 1 to 6, now known as years 7 to 12. In 1978 it became a 7–10 school and was one of the original feeder schools to Bendigo Senior High School. In 1986, a Hearing Impaired Unit was established and in 1990 it underwent a name change to become Golden Square Secondary College. Equipment - Payphone
Since their Australian introduction in the early 20th century, public telephones have undergone several design iterations; diversifying methods of payment from coin to card, incorporating solar charging, mobile charging and Wi-fi access and of course, mitigation against vandalism. This model, a coin-operated Gold Phone, replaced the easily pilfered Red Phone and was succeeded by the Blue Phone in the 1990s. Although the prevalence of public telephones has decreased alongside the increase in mobile phone usage, public telephones remain under Telstra’s universal service obligation as vital communications infrastructure for low-income citizens and those needing to communicate in disasters. According to the Conversation, 13 million calls are made annually from public payphones, 200,000 of which are to triple zero.Orange plastic cased public payphone with button dials on face.public telephone, payphone, public services, telecom -

Radio - Phone
Radio telephones were used to connect people living or working in isolation with other people. This radio phone was used by ambulance officers, working on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme, to communicate with the doctor. The SECV had received an ambulance by April 1940. It had been modified for long and rough trips, departing from usual ambulance designs of the time. Ref. April 1940 SECV magazine. Mrs Beveridge (Skippy) lived and worked with her husband on the High Plains during winter. They had immediate contact with the outside world as they were connected by radio telephone with the Commission's (SECV) Bogong office. Hence, measurements taken of the snowfall and rainfall and observations from the experimental raceline are reported to head office of the Kiewa Hydro electric Scheme at Bogong. Ref. SEC magazine March - April 1948 page 25 and photo of the radio telephone in their home (different to this item) page 26. This radio phone is in a metal case with a separate steel lid attached with two large screws on either side. The front has a cream plastic face with open slits. It has a cover to protect the speaker behind it. There are 3 tuning knobs (volume, muting & channel) and a small red light. The phone cord is coiled and extends from the right hand side with a speaker attached. The speaker is for sending and receiving messages.'Radiophone / MTR 25 161 AG' 'STC' in a rectangle and 'Ser.
