In 1988, as part of a Defence of Mainland Australian policy, defence of facilities of strategic importance in northern Australia were allocated to Army Reserve units. ‘A’ Squadron was allocated the defence of Tindal Air Force base located 15 KM outside Katherine in Northern Territory. Consequently the Squadron deployed on Exercise ‘Northern Explorer’ to gain first-hand knowledge of operating conditions for mounted and dismounted patrolling in the area.Colour photograph of Captain C. The tram was fitted with a route number boxes in June 1939, which provides a date era for the tram, but is yet to have its drop centre floor raised. Beech Forest Railway Station was constructed in 1902 and had a number off additions to it over the years. At the far end of the station in 1902/3 was constructed a 'balloon' reversing loop, rather than a turntable or a triangle, which rolling stock used in order to even the wear on the wheels. However, the trains also used it. The Garrett in particular was supposed to be turned every second trip to even out its wheel wear, although this was usually ignored for other reasons. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. The photograph was taken at a Sunbury Race meeting, when a sudden shower of rain caused the spectators to run for cover. Sunbury Race Course was situated along Racecourse Road about 2kms from the railway station. The land has been sold and it is now a housing estate. Air raid precautions distributed to householders in Victoria. The booklet is part of a suite of materials used to support Air Raid Precautions (ARP) during the Second World War. Air raid wardens managed groups of people in using air raid facilities that were constructed throughout the district. The ARP scheme was based on that developed in the United Kingdom.Primary resources showing the materials and advice developed to protect civilians on the home front. Examples of such support in the Kew Historical Society's collection includes advice for authorised community representatives, insignia and equipment.This booklet was published by the State Emergency Council for Civil Defence Victoria in April 1941. The 37-page work provides advice about what to do in an air raid, lighting restrictions, the use of road vehicles and safety for pedestrians, and shelters. The Stoney Creek dray bridge. Stoney Creek has been bridged a number of times on school road since the creek was re-routed in the early 1900s. A dray bridge was built C 1910 by local residents, which stood them in good stead for more than a decade. This bridge was replaced by a higher timber structure.
