The doyleys are decorated with a large ''snow-flake'' shape in the centre-made with four rows of cording thread. A telegraph pole stands on the right side of the lane. The lane called Millers Lane was named in 2012. Bill Waters (b. Traralgon 1897, d. Fitzroy 1968) served as Commissioner of the Victorian Rovers, a section of Scouts Victoria, 1930-65. An award is named in his honour. According to his military records, William Collier did not make it to France. After enlisting on 3/04/1915 he went to England. The Main Street of Sassafras c1952 showing Mechanics Institute at left under snow. Note the hedge around the area that is now the Village Green. At the time of the photo the land belonged to Eva Shugg where she ran holiday flats called St Annes. Eva Shugg sold her house to Max Dower to extend his nursery in the 1970s and built a new home around the corner on Mountain Highway. At this time she donated part of her remaining land to form a Village Green. Erith Lane would have been named after Eliza Erith, the wife of Thomas Hand of Mountain Grange. The house made of slabs and bark pictured (centre) is where the family lived before Mountain Grange was built. Mabel Hand, Thomas and Eliza's youngest daughter stated that she was born in the bark hut in 1881 and they moved into the new home the same year. Cherry Farm, the roof visible behind the centre building, was the home of William Hand, son of Thomas and Eliza.
