Diamond House Stawell. This unique house was built by John Hearne between 1866-1868 using white quartz stone gathered on Church Hill opposite. Mr. Hearne showed considerable skill and patience in construction as the stones had to be carefully cut & fitted into uniformity which has lasted 130 years. Its is said not a nail was used. It became the Diamond house restaurant in 1932. The photo was taken in 1903.Two Black & white photograph of Diamond House including neighboring houses. Coloured photo McKellar Building c 1876. The colour photo was taken in 1992. The information in Album 4 page 40 states the building was built after fires of c 1866 & 1874. This photo is another view of the brick Ticket Box (58.1) on the right side of main gates and next to the former Dane House. In 1999 the house was owned by Stawell City Council and used as the Community Neighborhood House. It was demolished some years ago. Two black and white post cards of the Olympic swimming pool in Cato lake c 1950's. The Rose Series P 14901 shows the swimming pool and lake with the swimming pool dominating the photograph. Four flag posts are clearly visible and the pool connected to the edge of the lake. The Rose Series P 14012 also shows the Olympic pool but more of the lake and boundary. with seating around the lake. In March 1957 Cato Lake was emptied for construction of the Olympic pool and officially opened on 15.11.1958. Twenty seven years later In January 1985 the pool was found to be leaking and Borough Council in February banned further use of the Olympic pool. Valentine Series No 1083 The Willows Victoria Park. This photo was possibly taken before the diving tower and change rooms were erected. The Victoria Park name was changed to Cato Park in 1930.Two original Valentine Series and one enlarged black and white photograph of Victoria Park later called Cato Park. The two Valentine Series No 1083 show the willows to the left and buildings hidden by trees in the distance surrounding the lake.
