Gold framed item: silver brooch. Written in photo : Emblem of the Liedertafel. Of silver, these badges were proudly worn by members of Bendigo's Liedertafel from the 1960s. Consisting of all male voices, these choristers gathered, mainly at the Capitol theatre in View Street, to sing the Lieder ( German song ) The choir became very popular and were in great demand for functions, concerts and all types of musical entertainment. Rae was the organist and choir master of the parish church of St Paul, Bendigo, 1931 - 1965. Rae's son Stuart Anderson from the Balgownie Winery 1969-1999; had also been a pharmacist. Rae Anderson was a former President of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, Bendigo Branch; now the Bendigo Historical Society. Rae died on the 8th. February, 1986 aged 82 years. He was a dedicated pharmacist; an outstanding musician; choir master and organist at St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral; a craftsman who loved to fashion things in wood and brass; interested tn the preservation of our heritage. Rae established "the Anderson Library" at the Society for reading and research.Fifteen Photos of the St Paul's Church of England and an unknown dam. They were restored from a box of glass plate negatives found under a house in Mckenzie Street, Bendigo,.when it was sold. BENDIGO. Golden Square State school choir won three of the principal shields at the recent Bendigo musical and elocutionary competitions. The choir's victories were celebrated by a social at which the prizes were presented. In presenting the trophies, Mr. R. S. V. Cocking, president of the competitions committee, referred to the popularity of the children's choir contests, which the musical adjudicator, .Mr, James, had characterised as the most important sections on the programme. Of the whole of the competitions held throughout Australia none had a school section to equal that at Bendigo. The head master of the school, Mr. A. M. Parratt,. who conducted the choirs, was presented with a grandfather's clock and photographs of the choirs, by the residents of Golden Square. The Age 23 June 1927Black and white photo of thirty children - twenty five girls and five boys, and one adult male. The girls appear to be all dressed in white dresses and long white socks, and the boys and adult are dressed in suits with white shirts and ties. Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Gertrude was involved with many community and sporting organizations.Gertrude Perry Collection - St. John Ambulance Association to certify that Gertie Perry has received elementary instruction in the principles of First Aid and Home Nursing on 14/12/1931. Miss Perry was awarded a Credit for successfully passing the examinations on both subjects; and is signed by the President, Instructor and Examiner.physical culture class, fitness, exercise, st. john ambulance association
