For more than 70 years farmers and other agricultural businesses had access to Government programs and assistance from this corporation. In 2014 the Rural Finance Corporation’s business and assets were transferred to the Bendigo and Adelaide BankThis book is kept as a library copy because its contents contain several references to Warrnambool and district and the Rural Finance Corporation was well-known to local people, particularly those in the agricultural sector and it was appreciated by so many in the district.This is a hard cover book of 197 pages. It has a multi-coloured front cover showing a child on a tractor with three adults nearby and four colour photographs on the back cover. The dust cover has similar images. The book has a message from the Treasurer, a foreword, seven chapters of text, a timeline, references and an index. The Timeline history of Melbourne trams - Barry George et al, dates the fire as 4 November 1923, during the Police Strike. Four horse tram cars were destroyed as a result. The photo has mounted onto a Norman Co. cardboard tag using an adhesive substance. At some stage in the photo’s timeline it had information written on the back. It was stuck down, then later removed leaving residue all over the writing making it essentially impossible to read. With the photo was a handwritten note which has been verified is what can be made out on the back of the photo. This note appears to be written to Nellie by Annie Sweeney of Culla Hill, Eltham. Sketch of the four pottery kilns at East Ringwood, corner of Velma Grove and Mount Dandenong Road (Oxford Road). The kilns shut down in 1926. Judging by the handwriting, the artist and author appears to be John Rodaughan, East Ringwood historian, whose other works include history on Burnt Bridge Hotel and other parts of East Ringwood. The back of the sketch includes a rough hand-drawn map, that appears to be of the insulator works area, between Mt Dandenong Road and Evon Avenue. Newspaper Clipping - from The Argus Monday 15/3/1937, titled "Six Trams Damaged with Road Metal", about the damage caused at the time of the closure of the South Melbourne and Port Melbourne cable tram services - by souvenir hunters and people at the Port Melbourne depot who through road metal (stones) at the trams as they came into the depot. The timeline gives the date of closure as Saturday 13/3/1937. Notes one of the Gripmen was a Mr. J. Armstrong. This is the 3rd document following on from Cat No's 8255 & 8256. The letter is addressed to Mr J.K. Barnes Secretary Bendigo RSL Sub Branch. The letter confirms the points made at a meeting between Mr Barton City of Bendigo and the Bendigo RSL regarding the Restoration of the Bendigo Cenotaph. It outlines the following points; 1. Materials to be used. 2. Faults. 3. location. 4. Restoration. 5. Time of construction. 6. Work progress. 7. Chemical preservation. The foolscap page supplied to Council by the RSL outlines the timeline of the Cenotaph coming into being from Wednesday 6th May 1953 the first meeting to the 2nd of June 1957 when Sir George Lansell officially gave the Cenotaph to the Citizens of Bendigo.Document 3 pages stapled together. Whilst my main focus for the artwork design was on the Hotels on Main Road, I felt there was an opportunity to tell a broader story of Main Rd and combine/include some interesting pieces of information from many stages of the history of Main Road. Considering that at one point in time there would have been at more than six hotels in this very short section of street….there’s no doubt Main Rd was an epicentre of communication and festivities for the Goldfields of Ballarat. “No matter what luck he had, every miner needed supplies, food and something to entertain him when he was not searching for gold.” Described as being an overcrowded jumble of muddy streets loosely arranged around mining camps...and loud, muddy, colourful and sometimes illicit. I wanted the artwork composition to consist of overlapping images and text to reflect this sense of hustle and bustle. Main Road Mural tells the broader story of the history of Main Road in Ballarat. In 2018, the City of Ballarat commissioned local Ballarat artist Travis Price to create an artwork to align with the Main Road Revitalisation Project and deliver a key component of the storytelling (heritage interpretation) project that spans the length of the shopping precinct. The artwork is featured on a prominent site in the shopping precinct of main road and tells the story of Main Road through depicting key timeline events. Main Road, as its name suggests, was one of the main entries to the mining areas of East Ballarat. It had several names: Main Street before 1858, Plank Road between 1858 and 1868 and Main Road from 1868 onwards. The centre of mining life, it was crowded, prosperous, raucous and dirty. Federation University Australia was established on 1 January 2014. Formerly known as the University of Ballarat, its enabling legislation was the University of Ballarat Amendment (Federation University Australia) Act 2013. Although formally created as a University in 1994, the University of Ballarat had a lineage back to 1870 with the establishment of the School of Mines Ballarat, making it the third institution of higher learning to be established in Australia and the first to be established in regional Australia. On 1 January 1994, Ballarat University College became the University of Ballarat and in 1998 the University merged with three TAFE Institutes to become a dual sector institution with multiple campuses. On 1 January 2014, the University of Ballarat amalgamated with the Monash University Gippsland Campus to form Federation University Australia. The Gippsland Campus also had a long lineage dating back to 1928 with the establishment of the Yallourn Technical School which became a predecessor institution to the Gippsland College of Advanced Education formed in 1968. In 1990, it was renamed the Monash University College and in 1993 became the Gippsland Campus of Monash University. Federation University Australia, or FedUni, is Australia’s newest public University. Headquartered in Ballarat, Victoria, the University offers programs in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training to regional Victoria and beyond. The University’s commitment to educational and social equity, teaching excellence, research distinction, environmental sustainability and regional capacity building has enabled it to develop in a way that draws on its proud heritage to inform its future. Its regional character sets a framework for the University’s priorities but does not constrain it from serving wider community interests, nationally and internationally. Authors of content include Isaac Selby, Dorothy Rogers, Dione McIntyre and Graeme Lindsay. Other authors are not identified. Some of these histories were used on annual bus trips of the suburb during the Kew Festival. Notes on specific aspects of Kew’s history relate to early exploration, settlement in Cotham Road, the influence of the environment, northern and eastern Kew and Studley Park. The majority of these monographs remain unpublished texts. Has the St Kilda Junction service station in the background. Photo possibly shows the resurfacing of the junction. Has a number of parked motors cars in the image.
