Owned by Martin Balsarini, a resident of Chiltern Valley, for use in WW1. Service Number 1682. Martin Balsarini enlisted on the 21/7/1915 and served with the 4th Australian Lighthorse, AIF. He participated in what is known as the last great cavalry charge, the charge of the 4th Australian Lighthorse at Beersheba on the 31/10/1917. An example of the standard issue webbing belt used by Australian service personnel, first introduced in 1937. This belt is an example issued in the late 1980s and is a variation of the design being finished in a black colour and not having buckles at the rear. This belt was worn by an officer and has gold plated, 'rolled' brass slides rather than the standard flat brass finish slides. The buckle components have also been gold plated.

On the inside surface of the bags is a dark coloured canvas of finer weaving. The necks of the bags are of bakelite with a screw top also of bakelite. There is a 25 mm webbing that joins the front of the carrier L = total length 21 cms. There is a longer 25 mm webbing belt that joins the back portions. L = total length 64 cms. FALLS CREEK ROPE TOWS Toni St Elmo brought back plans for a Hamilton rope tow from New Zealand. He had a rope tow built in the summer of 1950-51 and it went into operation the following winter. Skiers were charged 10/- per day to use it. Skiers held onto the rope with a locking device called a ‘nutcracker” attached to a webbing belt. This tow, known as the Nissen Tow, continued to operate until 1960. Bob Hymans installed a shorter portable rope tow for his guests at Skyline from 1954. Other tows included the Village Tow and the Nursery Tow. Eventually most of the tows were taken over by Alpine Developments. From 1960 onwards they were gradually replaced by T-bars and then later on by chairlifts. This belt is from the original rope tow used between 1951 and 1960 in the Falls Creek ski lifts. Worn by VX45541 Lieutenant Louis A Jackson who served with 2nd/8th Armoured Regiment in Australia and New Guinea during WWII. Following its return from New Guinea in 1944, 2nd/8th Armoured Regiment had a change of role and was redesignated Numbers 41, 42 and 43 Landing Craft Companies and served in Pacific Islands till the end of the war. In 1947, Louis Jackson joined the Citizen Forces (CMF) and served as a captain in the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. This uniform is a well provenanced, representative example of WWII clothing as worn by an officer of an armoured regiment.
