Domestic object - Colander, Kande Kitchenware, Circa 1924
Kande Kitchenware was established by Patrick Kavanagh and William English (the name Kande was formed from their initials, K and E) in 1922 and had its Sydney factory in Little Collins Street, Surrey Hills. Kavanagh and English, a subsidiary of Kande Kitchenware, became a limited company in 1924, with both founders as directors. Another director was Test cricketer Jack Gregory, an all-rounder who slipped easily into the role of businessman. Gregory enjoyed success in business as on the cricket field, helping the company grow from a tiny operation to a major manufacturer and exporter that employed 80 people in 1931. They managed to survive the Depression and kept manufacturing at least until the late 1960s.An appliance made by an early and successful Australian company that manufactured metal kitchen items during the first half of the 20th century. Textile - Doily, c. 1910
This doily is typical of items of household linen in popular use in the 19th and early-to-mid 20th centuries. It was a tradition for brides to have a 'glory box' containing linen and embroidered and crocheted articles to take to their new home. In the Words of donor, Betty Stone, … “These crocheted and embroidered articles cover a period of three generations- ie. Sarah (nee Chamberlain) Lees, Ann (nee Lees) Dale, and Daisy Elvena (nee Dale) Welsh. All three were accomplished needlewomen; also, both Sarah Lees (born 1844) and her daughter, Ann (b 1865) crocheted a wide variety of articles for use in their homes. A few examples of these items have survived the years.” (NOTE: For additional information please refer to my book Pioneer and Places- A History of Three Warrnambool Pioneering Families ie. Chamberlain, Dale and Lees families) This item is associated with the Warrnambool pioneer families of Chamberlain, Dale and Lees. These families are listed in the Pioneers' Register for Warrnambool Township and Shire, 1835-1900, published by A.I.G.S. Warrnambool Branch. Tool - adjustable wrench
This type of wrench was called an adjustable twisted steel monkey wrench and was made around 1900. It was different from ordinary spanners and wrenches by the nature of the jaws being able to adjust to fit an individual nut, bolt or other fitting. The twisted handle wrenches were often forged by handtwist design on handle; jaws bent out of shape and worn. Hand-madechurchill island, tool, adjustable wrench, hand tool -

Uterine stem pessary associated with Dr Frank Forster
The pessary was originally regarded as an instrument and made from cork, ivory, hard rubber or gum-elastic. In later times, they were made from black vulcanite, flexible tin, soft copper wire covered with Indian rubber, and celluloid. The form of the pessary was and still is variable -either round, oval, or moulded in some cases combining three or four curves depending on the size of the pessary. In ancient times, medicated pessaries were made from emollient. astringent and aperient. Several of these are still used, but in more modem times are called vaginal suppositories. Anal suppositories are still used to suppress the pain of haemorrhoids.Moulded black vulcanite pessary. Pessary is irregular in shape, and in the "eyeglass" stem style.pessary, intrauterine device -

ingot mould
this ingot mould was used by the harrietville tronoh co. who operated the "tronoh" gold dredge from 1939 - 1954. this was the largest dredge in the southern hemisphere.when this dredge ceased operations it marked the end of dredging in the ovens valley.this dredge also brought electricity to harrietville. This item is significant asit is the only one in existence .This has been confirmed by former staff members. This mould represents an era which was very important to the story of HARRIETVILLE. The "tronoh" dredge commenced operations at a time when mining was at a low point . It provided employment for up to 60 men at it's peak & also connected harrietville to the electricity grid. When the tronoh dredge ceased operations it marked the end of gold dredging in the ovens valley. The enviromental damage caused by this dredge was one of the reasons behind a failed attempt to redredge the valley in the early 1980s. cast iron gold ingot mould with handle at each end, trapezoidel in shape.on inside base in relief in reverse 'H(T)L'gold, dredge. ingot mould -
