Provenance of the item not fully known. Possibly given to the Electric Supply Co of Victoria at the time when they would have been ordering rails for use in Ballarat. May have been collected by other parties.Plywood sheet, covered in black cloth displaying 11 different British Standard Rail Sections made by The North Eastern Steel Co. Ltd. Middlesborough , early 1900's. Each section secured with two 20mm (¾”) long, 3mm dia (1/8”) machine screws, countersunk with a slotted head from the rear. All nickel plated on both sides, engraved as to the tramway used on, date of production on the head of the rail, Designing Engineers on the web and the manufacturer on the foot of the rail. Cloth secured with staples and drawing pins on the rear. The photograph shows Geelong No. 2, built by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide in 1911 in its as-built configuration, c1920 at the Wharf terminus, known as the Moorabool Street Pier. The tram line was opened in 1912 and closed in 1940 when the track in Corio St was extended to the Beach terminus. There are a number of horse-drawn vehicles in the view with goods being loaded or unloaded on the ship moored on the right. The tramway was operated by the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. (MESCo). The photograph from the collection of Ken Magor was published in the Sydney Tramway Museum's magazine Trolley Wire in April 1981. The photo caption advises - "The steamship to the right is the Edina, a veteran Port Phillip steamer which was launched in 1854 and was not broken up until 1957." Design based on the Electric Supply Co of Victoria tokens. Used by the Museum as a fare payment mechanism or system. With the use of coins or banknotes being phased out and replaced by digital means, it is not possible for the traditional fare payment system to be demonstrated by conductors or tram crews. Maintains the mechanism or practice of exchanging a "coin" for a tram ticket. Visitors pay an entry fee at the new Museum and are given a token for each person. When ready for a tram ride, each passenger gives the token to the Conductor or Driver who issues a paper ticket. Tokens are: Green - 1/- Adult, blue - 6d - Child, red - 3d - concession, purple 1d - members and guests, and orange - no value - baby or under 4. Also maintains the traditional system of conductors accounting for tokens (or cash) and the number of tickets issued.Demonstrates a fare payment system that maintains a strong interpretative link to traditional methods for visitors.Set of 5 plastic fare tokens used by the Ballarat Tramway Museum manufactured during 2021. Photo of the scene looking southwest from the Post Office area, with an ESCo tram hauling a trailer and another tram on the opposite side of the roadway. Has the Town Hall, National Mutual Building, C Marks, and Snows in the view. Wal has dated the photo about 1913 on the rear of the postcard and about 1912 in his album notes - considered c1905 as the destinations are hanging from the front of the tram. This set of notes on the Auckland tramway system, both the main city, Auckland Tramway Board and the north shore - Takapuna Tramway and Ferry Co shows the various routes, locations and terminals. The hand written sheets provide opening dates of the various routes and gives the total miles and number of cars as at 31-3-1945. Collected by David Budge - 1879 - 1974, son of William and Mary Budge of Trevor St Ballarat, who worked for the Victorian Railways as a blacksmith residing in Walnut St Carnegie. Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard, which could be sent to others as a souvenir of the new tram system in Ballarat. There is a safety zone sign and two gentlemen standing alongside. The safety zone and line markings are unusual in Ballarat where passengers alighted or boarded on the lake side of the roadway.
