1. The Bendigo Gas Company formed in 1859, established the Bendigo Gas Works and became an incorporated company in 1860. It produced coal gas for the community until it was liquidated and delisted as a company in 1959. 2. The Colonial Gas Association was incorporated in 1888, selling shares for 5pounds and 10 pounds. It was originally formed in London with the aim of raising investment capital for the construction and maintenance of gas works across the cities and towns of Australia and New Zealand. A Vale notice that was published in the Bulletin in 1986 on the death of Legatee Cecil Waters. After the death of his father in WW1 Cecil Waters became a junior legatee from 1926. So he was among the first batch of Junior Legatees. He joined the Intermediate Legacy Club and served a term as President of the ILC. During WW2 he served in the Middle East and South West Pacific area from 1941 to 1946, completing his service as a Captain with the 2/1st Aust Beach Detachment. After his war service he was eligible to join Legacy as a Legatee. He was proposed by Legatee Len Frazer and seconded by Legatee Frank Doolan. He married Stan Savige's daughter, Gwen in 1954 and they had a son Stanley Waters. Ill health caused him to be placed on Reserve in 1962. The format of the meetings were: 1 Fallen Comrades 2 Announcements 3 Introduction of guests (to build on numbers members would bring comrades and friends along to meetings). 4 New members 5 Past president badge present on 2nd October to HE Cohen, TW White, MC Gardiner and CH Peters. The notation H6 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. This is one of the first documents that pertain to meetings of the early Legacy Club. Minutes from the 11th meeting of the committee held at Legacy House on 15 July 1960 reveals that 2000 copies of the book had been sold but sales were slowing. Because minutes of the 9th and 10th committee meetings are missing, information on the project is incomplete, but these minutes refer to the fact that the author wanted his loan of $1000 to be refunded, reversing his advice in the minutes of the 15 December 1958.
