No. 1 Pipeline heads down the mountain from McKay Power Station (the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme) and can be seen from the Falls Creek Rd.. The pipeline is 1635m long. It was built on the mountain rather than as a tunnel inside the mountain - "It was argued that a pressure pipeline on the surface, while not actually cheaper than the tunnel could possibly save one year in construction time.'The document is a report on the welding involved on the No. 1 pipeline. J. M. Scott was the welding inspector for the SECV on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The book is produced by the SECV and is the 'Foremen's Guide' and includes rules and regulations across all areas.A) 10 pages of a 'field record' all pages typed on one side. Stapled on top left corner B) Small, fat book c190 pages plus appendix. Thick and 'tattered looking'. Bound by flexible 'cloth?'(linen?) and fastened with 2 rusty fasteners.B) Cover - F/M J. Second school building on same site, which was put out for tender in April 1875. The stone building is prior to any additions. Note children playing in school yard. Published in Nillumbik Mail Edition 21, 20 Sep Harry Gilham's notes: Constructed 1875. Inspection finished 31 December 1875 - outer walls covering said to come from Quarry Park at the western end of cuyrrent Lavender Park Road, Eltham. Sepia photograph of school students with John Brown, Head Teacher (1889-1906) John Brown died 23 Sept 1906 after a short severe illness at age 55 and is buried in Box Hill Cemetery (Evelyn Observer 28 Sep 1906 p2). Eltham Primary School. This building is the earliest building remaining on site today. It was built in 1875 and was the second school building replacing the original 1856 building of stone walls with wooden shingles on the roof. That building needed to be replaced after the stone walls collapsed outwards. In August 1912 the school issued a requisition for remodelling of the school concerned with replacement of the existing windows with larger and wider windows to allow additional light into the school rooms and the erection of a wooden partition in the centre of the room. This work commenced in early 1914 and this photo shows the altered windows. Pre 1921 extension and skylights in roof. Only two low wooden stairs present to enter the porch. These were rebuilt by 1928. A steel mud grate was introduced 1930s/1940s and an infant shelter shed is shown on the 1945 plan. The residence was relocated from school number 2242 in Heatherdale Road (Mitcham) south of the railway line to this site in Ringwood Street opposite Charter Street where it adjoined the school when it opened at the corner of Maroondah Highway in 1889.
