He enlisted in the AIF No 4631 on 11.8.1915 in the 14th reinforcements 7th Batt age 22 years. Embarked for Egypt 28.1.1916, transfers to the 58th Batt 26.3.1916 then to the 57th Batt 3.4.1916. Embarks for France 17.6.1916, promoted to CPL 7.2.1917, SGT 25.5.1917, WIA 2.3.1918 GSW to head severe, returns to Australia re his wounds 7.6.1918 and discharged from the Army on 8.10.1918. Harrington is Thomas Clarence Harrington. He enlisted in the AIF No 1553 on 13.9.1914 in the 3rd reinforcements 8th Batt age 27 years 10 months. Historical: This book covers all aspects of the C.W.A. including its history. The Tawonga branch of the C.W.A. commenced on the 7th Feb. 1946 and often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve health, welfare and education for women and children in the country .Women living in Tawonga were mostly on farms and, in 1946, when the branch commenced, would have been feeling more remote with WW11 having had an effect on available workers and the well being of the women and children.Small 17 page book with white cardboard cover and green writing. The board was made from a piece of quarry slate set in a wooden frame. In early times a slate pencil (not chalk) was used to form the letters. This slate pencil was often sharpened on the school wall. The advantage of slates over paper was that they could be wiped clean and used again and again. Children had to bring a dampened cloth or sponge to school so that they could clean the slate and start again but often they would use their own spit and the cuff of their sleeve!
