The Civic Centenary Thanksgiving Service was held at Holy Trinity Church, Port Melbourne on Sunday 10th July 1960 at 7pm. It was attended by His Worship the Mayor, and the Mayoress, Cr. L.S. It gives some of his childhood recollections of Port Melbourne Hotels These include the Shamrock which he understood that it was "... a weatherboard Building - very Badly Conducted and when it was burned down it was not rebuilt... Made of hardwood. It is constructed to be opened by a pair of hinged doors. It has a carved additional piece affixed to the top of the honour board. On each of the doors are inscribed members of the organisation.
