A painting class at Legacy House. It shows one of many activities that the widows were involved in. This photo was published in the Widows' Newsletter in November 1991 and names the lady as Vi Thompson. There were weekly workshops for craft and others for painting. The timetable for activities was published in The Answer (prior to Sept 1992 it was called the Melbourne Legacy Widows' Newsletter) each month. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.CD entitled "A Cure for All Ills: Medicine in Bendigo 7 Feb - 10th August 2014". The CD contains eleven recordings of nurses who trained in Bendigo relating their experiences. There is a photo of the battery mentioning it was the Thompson's Foundry battery and it was being re-erected at Maldon, near Castlemaine. It has been in far of Victoria to crush rock taken from mines there. The battery will be one of the attractions in the Parkin's Reef Reserve being developed by the Conservation, Forests and Lands. The report is headed "Department of Agriculture, Victoria." At this time the Burnley School of Agriculture was under the jurisdiction of the Dept. of Agriculture. This is a set of seven colour and black and white photographs of Army Survey Regiment’s Australian Rules football team – the Fortuna Lions aka “Fortuna Fumblers”, taken at Seymour and Bendigo Victoria in 1983. The Fortuna Lions competed in the Puckapunyal Area Football Association for several years from 1978 to 1984 and in 1983, fielded a great team it managed to reach the Grand Final. Held at the neutral ground at Kings Park, Seymour, the match was an incredibly exciting and bruising contest played in damp conditions and ended in a draw. Dave Lawler’s spectacular mark was a highlight. Due to heavy rain during the following week, the Grand Final replay was held the following week in even heavier conditions. The Fortuna Lions prevailed in the replay with an emphatic victory. The team’s leaders were Eddie Jacobs (coach), Rhys De Laine (captain), Greg Else (vice-captain), and Ken Slater (manager).
