Andrew MacKenzie had researched some of the at least 200 paintings by Frederick McCubbin that were apparently lost. One called "An Old Politician" had been retitled by his purchaser "An Old Coach Builder" as the model was coach builder George Elliott, of the business Stevenson and Elliott. MacKenzie was assisted by Kathleen Mangan, McCubbin's last child. Originally published in a Gold Coast newspaper; article sent to Thelma Lockwood. Charles Tennant was born in Ballarat in 1847 and was a member of the Victorian Police Force for 36 years. He spent some time in Shepparton where he met his future wife Elizabeth Mary Gorey, at a dance. She had just graduated as a trained nurse in the first group ever trained in the Mooroopna Hospital. They later moved to Cobram. As well as being an activist, Tilly Aston was also a published author and wrote several books during her lifetime. In this scanned image, from The Weekly Times newspaper, she holds her hand to her face and wears a flounced blouse with a multi-strand pearl choker and a heavy bangle which appears from underneath a decorated cuff. Her hair is swept up in a top knot and a large black bow, turned sideways, rests upon her left side. This book of war cartoons that had been published in the Argus Newspaper is a second volume to "Havoc" (item 00987). World War 2 has almost enveloped the globe and the Allies are having difficulty in containing the rapid expansion of Axis forces. It has been kept by a Legatee as a souvenir and found its way into the archives.Despite the reverses of the allied forces the cartoonist has maintained a positive outlook in his sketches about the outcome of the war. Articles related to the Victorian Deaf & Dumb Institution, Victorian School for Deaf Children, Deaf Children Australia, the deaf community and other relevant topics. The newspapers included are Melbourne, regional and interstate. Much of the collection was put together by the publicity officer of the time. A clipping service was used in the later years. The caption of the photo says 'Junior Legatee Jim Illingworth wore an appealing smile as he proudly displayed a Legacy Appeal poster at Legacy House yesterday. The target of today's appeal is £30,000.' He could be the same junior legatee that posed for an image of a Legacy Boy that was printed as a brochure in 1960 with the slogan 'The Legacy Boy, worthy son of a worthy father.' The article was cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrap book of press clippings.
