Various partiesReference, Research, InformationKHS OrderBlythswood was a former mansion in Kew, built in the 1850s and later becoming the home of the newspaper magnate, David Syme. The file contains detailed histories and a large number of annotated photocopied photographs of the house and garden. Most of the items were compiled and donated by Veronica Coudou, a descendant of the Syme family. The main 10-page [copyrighted] manuscript by Coudou covers the period 1863-1908 and describes the buildings, gardens and the owners. These items are undated. Fairyland, when owned by the Tabulos was a noted local, state, national and international tourist attraction. The grandparents of the historian Dorothy Rogers had originally owned the house. The file contains a copy of Rogers’ history of the house. The file also contains sundry newspaper articles/clippings, correspondence between KHS and the City of Boroondara relating to heritage protection, personal email correspondence (not for distribution), poetry, research documents including timelines, and colour and black and white photographs (donated by Betty Morgan, Matt Dickerson, et al). Primary sources included in the file include photocopies of Jim Tabulo’s War records and Jim and Grace Tabulo’s wedding certificate. Various partiesReference, Research, InformationSecondary Values (KHS Imposed Order)Subject file containing both primary and secondary sources relating to the sculpture by Peter Schipperheyn (b.1955) - Grip of Time (1979) - installed on the north wall of the Kew Town Hall (now the Kew Library) in 1983. Mrs Laurel Abercrombie, a Kew resident, donated the sculpture to the City of Kew in 1982, and it formed part of the ‘municipal collection’ of the former City of Kew (now City of Boroondara). A note in the file records that prior to its installation on its current site; it was attached to a brick wall at the side of Abercrombie Galleries, Johnson Street, Collingwood. It was restored by the sculptor c.1996. The file contains two colour photographs of the sculpture and newspaper articles recording controversy at the time of its installation. The file contains a number of original files provenanced to the Judd family including a subdivision brochure of the Park Hill Estate (1916) that includes a map of the subdivision, an early photo of the ten-roomed house. Other primary sources include a seven page photocopy (& transcript) of notes on early Kew by Thomas Judd Jnr (1950). An undated letter accompanying the information refers to Miss Ina Balaam, the last descendant of the family to live in the house. The file also includes a photocopy of the obituary of Thomas Judd and a newspaper article/clipping from 1972, which includes a short history of the house and a photograph. Various partiesReferenceKHS OrderThe City of Kew was amalgamated into the City of Boroondara in 1994. The new city comprised the former Cities of Hawthorn, Kew and Camberwell. This archive file contains primary sources and publications relating to the amalgamation. The earliest item in the file is a newspaper article/clipping from the Eastern Standard (1986) recording a request from Hawthorn Council to Kew Council to consider amalgamating. The file also includes other newspaper articles/cuttings (some undated) reporting on opposition to the amalgamation. An interesting item in the file is a photocopy of a coloured digital photograph of the members of the last Kew Council. [The original still has to be discovered].
