Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education (BIAE) was the tertiary division of the Ballarat School of Mines. The 240 acre Mt Helen campus was purchased in 1967. The Victa company was founded by Mervyn Victor RICHARDSON in Australia in 1952 initially to manufacture lawnmowers. This badge was on the back gate of a former shop in Princes Street, Port Melbourne. Application was made for a mixed school known as Parupa Common School in 1865. Building by Robert Pitkethley commenced in 1867. The name was changed to Lake Bolac State School No. 854 in 1870. The school was bluestone with galvanised iron roof. 30ft x 18ft x 10ft high with teacher residence attached. The building was used from 1867 to 1925 when it was sold for removal. ‘Adeney Avenue’ was the title given to this painting following its donation to the Kew Historical Society, yet the work’s origins predate the naming of Adeney Avenue in 1907 [originally gazetted as ‘Park Street’ (1865) and ‘Park Street South’ (1875).] Park Street ran between High Street and Parkhill Road beside what was later to become ‘Victoria Park’. This area was described in 1851 as “…a dense forest of gums and wattles which were to be largely cleared by 1888 after the naming of a recreation reserve”. The Reserve was still bisected by an unnamed creek in 1896, when the area was surveyed by the MMBW. The panoramic vista selected by the artist would appear to include ‘Eborensis’ (c.1895) on the corner of Parkhill Road and what was then Park Street, with views across cleared land towards the distant ranges. In the 19th century, north Kew was largely undeveloped farms stretching down to the Yarra. Oil on canvas by an unidentified artist of a panoramic view depicting what is now known as East Kew with mountains on the horizon. In the foreground is a two storey brick residence - Eborensis - located on the northeast corner of Parkhill Road and what is now Adeney Avenue. The view of the landscape and its rolling hills resulted from farming practices adopted following colonisation and settlement. Trees in the foreground and in the distance include remnant Eucalypts and introduced exotics.Label on rear of frame states "House on corner of Adeney Ave & Parkhill. [Regd. 254"]. THE MILL HOUSE- Albert Street, Tatura.|Reilly®s Flour Mill operated in Tatura from 1880 to 1965. The mill was demolished in 1966. James Reilly emigrated from County Cork, Ireland, spent two years on a family farm at Fitzroy, another two years at a mill at Kilmore, and then to Murchison to build a mill. Some of his family came to Tatura to build a mill. The house was built for members of the family to live in at various times. After the mill was demolished the house remained as a residence on about the only hill in Tatura. In the late 1970®s, early 1980®s a doctor added several upstairs rooms, then in the late 1990®s the house was used as a bed and breakfast. Original Vicarage 30 Seaby Street c1863. Used by the Anglican Church until 1923 when it was sold. This house is one of the oldest in Stawell. It was built in 1863 as the residence of the Church of England Vicar. Separate to the original Vicarage the Christ Church of England was built on the hill opposite in the same year. Many couples were married in the Drawing Room of the vicarage as was the custom at the time. In 1872, 9 years later a new church called Holy Trinity Church of England was built in Main St. Stawell to replace Christ Church which had become too small and too far from the main population. The Vicarage remained until 1922 when the house next door to Holy Trinity Church was purchased as the new Vicar's residence. Black and white photograph of a brick home with cement render.
