Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education (BIAE) was the tertiary division of the Ballarat School of Mines. The 240 acre Mt Helen campus was purchased in 1967. In 1972 a four storey library, union building and hall of residence for 70 students were under construction at an approximate cost of $2,500,000.
