Six photos of the exterior and interior of Thomas Kinsella's past residence in grounds of St Patrick's Catholic Church taken 2000. The house "Donanore" was built in 1900 by Thomas Kinsella and was the family residence for many years. The Stawell news of 26.1.1924 reported the arrival of nuns from the order of Sisters of Joseph. The nuns resided in the house for many years. Three of the six photos are of the interior. One of the front door surrounded by stained glass windows. Another a detail of an external door. The third a view of a statue at the end of the hallway. St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church Stawell. Now United Church. This landmark of Stawell was opened on 11th April 1869. The tower and spire, overall height of 148 feet, cost 1352 pounds and was paid for by an early mine owner. In March 1869, a month before the Church was opened, the local paper reported that a large red flag on the top of the Presbyterian Spire meant that the last brick had been laid and the massive gilt ball and cross had been placed in position. Stawell Shire Hall built 1866. These photographs of the Shire Hall, Longfield Street Stawell. This building has had many changes since 1866. Ronald Campbell, the Shire's second president laid the foundation of the hall on 28th April 1866. The contractors were Hutchings and Delbridge. The first Hall and office were the front part of the existing building. These rooms consisted of two 18 ft square rooms with an entrance hall separating them. The facade was almost the same as it is today. The building cost 502 pounds. Black and white photograph of a brick building which has been cement rendered with a parapet on top. The World War One windows in the Barkly Street Uniting Church resulted from a request made in 1919 from the Barkly Street Young Men's Club who raised money to pay for the project. The window was designed by the Fisher Company, and was unveiled on 14 March 1920 at a total cost of 171 pounds 10 shillings. The windows are considered to be one of the most remarkable war memorial windows in Victoria, and the 1800s English Gothic-style front facade is believed to be protected by a City of Ballarat heritage overlay. Historical experts believe the windows were designed by renowned stained-glass window-maker William Montgomery. The centre window depicts a young soldier bearing an Anzac badge underneath the British and Australian flags. The image of the solider is surrounded by 24 crosses, a single dove and a bugle.
