document - Correspondence, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), Apr. 1929
Set of two letters between Mr. P. J. Pringle of ESCo Ballarat and Mr. D. Murdoch, General Manager of the TB Melbourne and a copy of the Victorian Government Gazette of Wed. 20/3/1929 regarding fares along the same routes that trams and buses travel. In Bendigo and Melbourne, the fare by bus was 1 penny more than the tram. 1976.1 - Victorian Government Gazette - No. 32 - 20/3/1929 - pages 1067 to 1124 - with page 1081 highlighted on the front cover in blue pencil and a ESCo date received stamp (16/4/1929) on the front cover. Page 1081 details the City of Bendigo's By- Laws and Regulations No. 58, pursuant to the Urban and Country Act of 1927, relating to Motor Omnibuses. Details the requirements of bus owners in the Bendigo district, definitions, licence fees, routes and fares, timetables over five pages. Following this item are similar regulations for the Shire of Mildura (p1086). Item 335H x 210W, consisting of four staple sections. Damaged on left hand edges, particularly around page 1081 where the two letters were pinned. (Removed at time of cataloguing). Also yellowing and damage due to silver fish along bottom edge. Printed by H.J. Green Government Printer, Melbourne. 1976.2 - Letter from Mr. P. J. Pringle (ESCo) to A. D. Murdoch Manger TB dated 16/4/1929 forwarding a copy of the Bendigo Motor Bus regulations and noted that where the buses traversed the tram routes, the fare is 1d more and that the buses have regular service schedules. Licence fee is 5/- per annum per passenger that the bus can carry. Mr. Pringle thought that this was inadequate. Also notes the cost of insurance. On ESCo letterhead - two pages white paper, has been folded into 6, pinned in the top left hand corner., damaged on the right hand edge and top left hand corner. Size 262H x 203W. 1976.3 - Carbon copy of letter from Mr. Murdoch to Mr. Pringle on pink paper, dated 20/4/1929 thanking of the advice and noting that on the Melbourne - Brighton - Caulfield route, the minimum fare where the bus traverses the same route as the tram, is 5d, while the tram fare is 4d. All corners damaged or folded, silver fish damage on right hand edge. Size - 336H x 2089W. Tram stop alongside front of tram, has been recently painted. Also fitted with an enamel sign and "End of Section" sign. Advertisements for "Twin Lakes" and 50/50 dancing at the Civic Hall are on the front panel of the tram. Tram has tiger stripes but not the white dash under the lights. Behind No. 32 is a bogie tram. Negative No. N377 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat No. 17 at the City Terminus, Sturt St. Tram has destination of "Victoria St." and a White Horse whiskey dash panel advertisement. Has the short tram stop/section pole adjacent to the tram. In the background has the SEC offices, "The Baby Shop", also Crockers and Tunbridge's stores. Note a Conductor can be seen walking across from the SEC offices to the tram. Date of photo on folder - 11/6/1960. Note: Reg Item 858 of Ron Fluck of 31/12/58 shows tram number to the side of the headlight while Wal Jack (Reg. Item 396) of 23/1/61 shows tram fitted with dash canopy lights. Drummond, Traffic Manager. Details the sections and fares for each tram and bus route on the MMTB System in a tabular form. Page 5 has an index of routes, includes concession fares. Centre pages show a map of the system and the sections. The extension to North Bendigo is yet to be constructed. Gives times for trams leaving the city or the terminals for the routes and for the Eaglehawk route, leaving Long Gully Bridge. Has four SECV Advertisements within the book for hot water, ovens - cookers, toasters and electric fan heaters. Three copies held. Demonstrates aspects of the method of selling advertising space inside tramcars by the SEC and gives rates.Pamphlet - folded card - giving advertising rates for Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat tramcars. Details the number of trams in each city, the rates for a standard size internal card, based on the number of cards, larger cards, half yearly and quarterly. Gives reasons why you should advertise. Has the same name, telephone number and the name "Alan Davis Pty Ltd of 149 Castlereagh St Sydney" on the card as well. Not sure of their relationship. On the front small folded section, an image of an owl and the statement "Be Wise and Advertise". Has a strong association with a Church of England Convention in 1918, shows a scene of Sturt St Ballarat with a tram. Would have acted as a souvenir of the convention.Button badge, 32diameter, plastic back, metal image front, green border, pressed on with steel spike pin, for the 1918 Ballarat Christian Convention badge. Set of 12 coloured views of Ballarat printed with six photos on either side of a folded strip of paper glued within an embossed paper folder. Published by Nucolorvue Productions Vic., titled "A Souvenir of Beautiful Ballarat". Front cover has a colour rural scene, title, address area and on base of cover "12 Specially Selected Views in Full Colour". Rear of Cover has a part of a colour scene as well and a slit for the envelope to be closed over and sealed.
