Dutton and Wiggs operated a brass and iron foundry known as the Warrnambool Brass and iron Foundry situated in Timor St. Mr Dutton was a mechanical engineer and Mr C Wiggs was an experienced foundry worker. They were innovative in their work and also manufactured a large number of everyday items such as verandah posts, brackets and milk aerators.The significance lies in the fact that the items were manufactured in Warrnambool by a well- established local business. This business was the first Cleaning Service operating in Wodonga, later branching out into cleaning supplies. The business was owned by Charles De Guara who had migrated to Australia from Malta at the age of 16. After various jobs in Melbourne, marriage to Latvian migrant Maija and three children, he and his family moved to Wodonga in 1971. He initially worked at the Wodonga Meat Works and soon became the union delegate, initiating strike action related to inaccurate practices in recording slaughtered animals which affected workers’ payments. This action successfully secured back pay for the workers. Mr De Guara started his cleaning enterprise in 1981 while still at the meatworks and then became full-time with cleaning in 1983. He set up his showrooms in the former Wodonga Library building in Hugh Street, Wodonga. The business employed up to 25 full and part-time workers with a turn over close to a million dollars annually. In addition to cleaning, Mr De Guara sold carpet cleaning machines and vacuum cleaners to individuals as well as businesses, hospitals and clubs. Due to changed family circumstances, the business closed in the late 1980s. Book containing 40 sets of forms for the recording of the issue of uniforms to the volunteer workers of the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society. Consisting of 40 sets of original (retained in book) on white paper and duplicate (printed using a sheet of carbon paper) printed on heavy manilla colour paper, with the same details as the top copy and on the back requesting workers keep the uniform clean, neat and spruce to give a good impression of the Society. Contained with light green crocodile skin printed cardboard covers, stapled on the left hand side and the left hand edge of the book covered with a olive cloth glued on the book. The original is fast, the duplicate perforated down left, the numbers 0001 - 0026 have original copies only, the duplicate have been distributed carbon paper inserted between form number 0027 Printed by Milldean press during late 1975 and used from 1/12/1975 to 7/11/1979 - 26 forms issued. Typewriters pre date computers and were used by office workers eg. Secretaries for documents and letter writing. An inked tape was hit by the keys as it moved along which resulted in their imprint being copied onto paper. Multiple copies were made by inserting carbon paper between sheets of paper. The original was easily identified.Used in the Kiewa Valley.Large, heavy, hard plastic two toned grey typewriter. The keys board includes symbols for inches, pounds, dollars, cents and fractions. The margins and size of paper measurements are in inches.The keyboard slopes up to a vertical plane. On top the area is flat where there is a small gap which exposes the metal keys. The cylinder that holds and enables the paper to be moved is long with controls at each end and a large lever that returns the cylinder to the left. Behind the cylinder there is a compartment. The keys hit an inked tape (black or red and black) which forms an impression onto the paper. Mechanisms, using the correct buttons, enable margins etc. to be pre set. This typewriter sits 3 cm high from a base. Vinyl deep red/black cover sits on top covering top and sides to protect the typewriter from dust. E. Swan (of Bairnsdale) purchased the Orbost Tank Factory from Mr E. F. Reynolds. Swan was a tinsmith, coppersmith, plumber, zinc and iron worker who specialised in repairing tanks. Robert Pullar Cameron was a Shire Councillor for many years. He married Penuel Hossack and had a family of James, Flora, Penuel and Alex.This item is an example of the book-keeping of an Orbost business in the early 20th century and is a useful research tool.A very stained shite paper account with black print and red lines from E. This article was handmade by Amelia Frances Selwyn probably in England after she married Lance Mallett in London. Amelia was the mother of Brenda Murray, dedicated community worker and local government councillor. Brenda was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to the community. Amelia Mallett was an early Croajingalong resident and she and Lance are buried in the Orbost Cemetery.This item is an example of a handcrafted item and reflects the needlework skills of women in thefirst half of the 20th century.A handmade black lacy bolero. Camp Westlake was built by Collingwood Technical School in 1967 and was officially opened on 22 September 1968. The camp was built by staff and students of the school with finance from various school sections and from materials donated by interested people and firms. It is named after Mr. F.R.Westlake and Mrs. Westlake who were staunch workers for the school. (From J.F.Barberis}Booklet of 15 pages with gold cover, A4 sized.
