The photograph shows a cable tram set being towed out of a car depot or car house by a tractor, North Fitzroy Nicholson St depot. The grip is in the raised position, with the gripman's hands on the brake levers. The conductor is waiting to pull the pin that secures the tow bar. The tram has the destination of Spencer St. Photo late 1930s or 1940. Trolley wire sample from the overhead at the former South Melbourne depot mounted with two nails from the rear on a white painted wooden block, with the label "Tramway Trolley Wire from South Melbourne Depot 1925-1997" The label has been printed onto a manila coloured sheet and nailed to the side of the block. A similar letter would have been prepared for the Upfield line. .2 - letter dated 6/1/1993 titled "Metropolitan Rail System - Service Alterations and closures" announcing that the Minister for Public Transport, announced the closure of the Newport to Williamstown lines and the Upfield rail line, along with reduction of services on other lines and that a voluntary departure package (termination of employment) is available. Surplus to needs after the conversion of Bourke St and that the seating reduced from 41 to 37 to facilitate one many operation. Bus sold to the Eastern Suburbs Omnibus services Pty ltd for the operation of the former railway service. The article and photo reports on the poor condition of the Victorian Railways operated St Kilda to Brighton tram line in St Kilda St, Brighton. This section of line closed during 1957. The Council reported that it had briefed a QC about the matter. The Railways were responsible for road maintenance and track maintenance. Photo, from The Age used in item 7194 reporting on the closure of the St Kilda - Brighton tramway from Elwood depot to Middle Brighton on 1/7/1957. Photo shows Victorian Railways tram No. 35 at St Kilda Railway station with the privately operated bus behind. The service was operated by the Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service using some half-cab buses. The bus is a Leyland OPS4 built in 1950 and subsequently sold to Eastern Suburbs Omnibus service in 1957.
