Inhaler, Probyn Williams, c. 1900
In 1896 Robert James Probyn-Williams was appointed first honorary anaesthetist to the London Hospital and joined a select band of fulltime anaesthetists (26) in Great Britain. The Probyn Williams inhaler was a further modification of the Clover inhaler with narrow airways and rebreathing. The metal inhaler is ovoid shaped. The rotating gauge has a series of numbers engraved onto the inhaler for measurement. There is an elbow joint leading to a connector for attaching a re-breather bag, and at the other end is tap-style mechanism. There is a small glass bulb encased in a metal housing. The knitting needle gauge was used as a guide to the needle sizes used in Britain and Australia before metric measurements were adopted for weights and measures in the mid 1970's.A silver metal knitting needle gauge in the shape of a bell with different sized holes in the middle numbered from 1-5 and slots around both sides numbered from 6-22. These holes were used as a guide to gauge the size of knitting needles. Imperial brass weights, 1859
Williamstown formed as a Municipal Government in 1856 and applied to the Victorian Government for a set of standard weights that would ensure all businesses etc would weigh their goods correctly. They arrived in Williamstown and were used from 1860 until 1966 when decimalisation was established in Australia. TThese weights were the first of their kind to be acquired in Victoria.15 round brass Imperial standard weights in 3 timber cases, weights weighing 1/2oz to 56lbs. Found in the National Wool Museum, may have been used in the wool brokers office display. Although it is unclear, we believe it may be the original wool broker ledger for one of the agents working out of the Dennys Lascelles building. Ledger contains an alphabetic list (by surname) of all wool growers who sold through this agent/broker, including name, number of bales/fadges/sacks, property address, bale stencil used, stock agent rebate and date of arrival. There is also a list of new clients on the back pages.Cloth-bound cardboard front and back cover ledger. Covers and spine are brown. Pale brown sticker on front indicates the year, some of the numbers are printed in reverse. Ledger contains lined pages with headings below which is hand-written text in pen and pencil, listing names and details in alphabetical order. -

Functional object - Imperial Postal Weights used in the Post Office in Wodonga
The set of seven imperial weights were used in the Post Office in Wodonga. The first Post Office in Wodonga opened on the 6th June 1856, and a second Post Office was built in 1874 on the corner of Sydney Road which became High St. and South St. In 1878 there were three staff at the Wodonga Post Office, including the Postmaster/Telegraph Manager and two Office-Keepers/Messengers. The mail service in 1878 included delivery four times a day from the Railway Station to the Post Office in Wodonga, and to and from the Wodonga Post Office to Albury twice a day.The set of seven imperial weights has local and state significance as it was used in the Wodonga Post Office in North East Victoria before decimal currency was introduced in Australia in 1966. The weights also have national significance as examples of the equipment used in post offices in Australia pre 1966.Set of seven cast iron and lead weights with imperial measurements '4 oz, 8oz, 1 lb, 2 lb, 3 lb, 4 lb, and 7 lb' The exterior circular black painted cast iron encases the heavy inner grey lead component, which is visible from the underside. This book presents a pictorial and written record of Warrnambool in 1891.It covers a wide range of topics. It provides statistical evidence relating to public buildings and organisations of that era, as well as basic information about district points of interest. The Mechanics Institute, the Common, Albert Park, the rivers, the Museum and the Sea Baths are all mentioned. The various drawings and advertisements provide a list of businesses which were prevalent at the time. As this book is one of only two complete copies documented to be still in existence, it is of considerable significance and importance to our collection. The drawings and text are artistically very much of the era and are aesthetically pleasing. Cardboard cover with picture of people on beach in tones of yellow, pink and blue sitting within a circle. This register obviously uses details from earlier registers as the first students listed in this new document for 1900, include previous registration numbers for pupils, listed beside their number in the new sequence. This is the earliest known Traralgon school register still in existence and contains a wealth of information for family and local historians.This is the earliest known (existing) register for a Traralgon school. This school is referred to locally as Campbell Street and it closed about 1912 with the opening of the new (more permanent) buildings of the new school No. 3584 known as Grey Street. Although the schools have different numbers, they are considered by historians and Education Department officials to be a continuation of the same school.This pupil's register covers the enrolment years 1900 - July 1910, for pupils numbered 1 - 978.
