This is a dish made by the English company of Royal Stafford Bone China about 1920 and sold in Warrnambool as a souvenir of the city with an image of the scene at the mouth of the Hopkins River. The scene depicted shows the old Hopkins Hotel, Proudfoots Boathouse, Lyndoch and the Hopkins River Bridge. This dish is of some interest as an example of the type of high quality souvenir offered to local tourists in the early 20th century. It is historically interesting as it depicts the Hopkins River mouth about 1920 and there have been many changes since then.This is a white oval dish with fluting on the sides and fluted edges. The rim of the fluting is outlined in gold. On the inside base of the dish is a black and white image of the mouth of the Hopkins River. There are brown stains on part of the fluted material and the outside base has the maker’s shield and name. This book was given as a Sunday School prize to James Cassady. The donor was William Wines. The Wines families were pioneers in the Woodford district. James Cassady was the son of William and Elizabeth Cassady and the family lived at Boughton on the Merri River (near Cassady’s Bridge, Caramut Road today). This property was established about 1845. Charley and Joe, whose names have also been written in the book, were James’ brothers. This book is of interest because it belonged to James Cassady, the son of pioneer settlers in Cassadys’ Bridge/Woodford area. This is a hard cover book of 220 pages with 32 extra pages at the back of the book giving information on other books produced by the same publisher. The cover is grey-green with gold lettering, green and black floral decorations and gold images of two men on horseback and a South American Indian chief. The spine is torn away at the top and the cover and pages are stained and crumpled. There are many black and white illustrations throughout the text, with the frontispiece protected by a piece of tissue. This book has been given by the Woodford Sunday School to Edith Cassady (note the misspelling of ‘Cassady’). Edith Cassady was the daughter of William and Elizabeth who lived at Boughton on the Merri River (near Cassady’s Bridge, Caramut Road today). This property was established about 1845. This book was given as a prize in 1892 to Joseph Cassady from the Cassady’s Bridge State School. This school, once located near Cassady’s Bridge on the present-day Caramut Road, was opened on 19th January 1891 and closed in December 1892. The first teacher was Janet Ada McDougall and the teacher when the school closed was J. H. Delahenty. The Cassady family had the farm, Boughton and this was established about 1845 on the Merri River near where the bridge is today. Joseph was born in 1882 to William and Elizabeth Cassady.This book is of considerable importance as it is the only memento we have of Cassady’s Bridge State School. This school only existed for two years.This is a hard cover book of 208 pages. The cover is green with coloured borders and a coloured sketch of a stream and a bridge. The lettering on the front cover and the spine is gold and the pages are gilt-edged. The cover is much faded. Some of the back pages are partly torn away. The book has two black and white sketches at the front of the book and 28 chapters of story. It relates to areas of the shire such as Belfast, Allansford, Garvoc, Laang, Naringal, Peterborough and Penshurst. It mentions people by the names of Coleman, Brennan, Dyson, Hurley, Jordan, Gray, Sadler.This collection of letters provides a very good overview of issues and work covered in the period 1939-1941.Dark grey mottled card cover with light brown binding. Puffing Billy was scheduled to be closed by the Victorian Government following falling passenger numbers and a landslide near Menzies Creek. This photograph is believed to have been taken on one of three special days in December 1954 and January 1955 negotiated by the Herald and Weekly Times for its 'Young Sun' readers before the line was permanently closed. A public campaign to reopen the line ensued. This photo is taken of the train crossing the road at Upper Ferntree gully. Surveying under the prevailing conditions at this time was an arduous and demanding task. There were no roads beyond Tawonga and access was by bridle tracks, on foot or horseback. This camp was to provide accommodation to those men who were surveying the road from South Tawonga to the Bogong High Plains which was commenced in April, 1938. The actual work was undertaken by the Country Roads Board, on behalf of the State Electricity Commission, using three Caterpillar diesel crawler tractors equipped with Kay Bruneriei (Brunner) lhydraulically operated trailbuilders (angle dozers)This photograph shows the primitive living conditions that were endured by those carrying out the initial field investigations and surveys for the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. It is possibly one of the few photographs in existence of this camp and of the very rustic timber foot bridge across the West Kiewa river. It has been taken from approx. 100m up Simmonds Creek Road. Possibly produced as a postcard. Caption in lower right hand corner reads: Bridge (at) Main Road Eltham. The long wooden suspension bridge over the Diamond Creek on Main Road at Eltham collapsed during flooding of the Diamond Creek on October 13 and 14, 1923. The original bridge was built around 1840 for the coach road when Cobb & Co.'s coach was the only conveyance between Eltham and Melbourne. Widespread damage was done in Melbourne and surrounding areas by floods resulting from the overflow of the Yarra at many points along its banks. A temporary bridge rigged up was severely damaged by the flooding of the creek and was closed to vehicular traffic in April 1924. A new concrete bridge was constructed to replace it and by May 1926 all the concrete piles and abutments had been completed. The bridge was finally completed and opened for traffic in September 1926, almost three years after it initially collapsed. Viewed from Antoinette Boulevard looking northwest towards Falkiner Street.
