Straight needle holder with a 'spring socket' attached to each side of the arms with a small screw. A piece of metal with three serrations is attached to the inner side of the left handle. The right handle has a similar tube of metal attached when the handles are squeezed together. The two pieces of metal lock and bring the point of the needle holder together. Western Aranda artist, Gerhard Inkamala. Born in 1917, Gerhard was the nephew of Albert Namatjira and grew up being inspired by his artwork and the surrounding landscapes. He became a skilled artist and during the 1940s was one of the founders of the famous Hermannsburg School of Art. In the 1950s Gerhard and his brother Adolf were included in a group exhibition in Alice Springs at the home of Rex Battarbee who was the Warrnambool-born art teacher of Albert Namatjira. He died in 1977.A landscape scene showing the Australian outback. Trees and shrubs in the foreground with rocky hills in the background. The foreground is an ochre/orange colour and the hills and rocks in the background are a blue/grey colour. The sky is clear and blue. Signed bottom right. These tickets were a replacement for the MetroCard Off Peaks introduced in 1980. However, the times of availability were now altered to being valid from 9am weekdays, but more importantly, could be used for return rail travel anytime that day. Like the MetroCards, they also allowed unlimited MMTB tram and bus travel within the Flinders, Spencer, Latrobe, William, Victoria and Spring Streets grid. No conditions were printed on the rear of these tickets. Functional object - Ticket punch, Set of four, c1960
Set of four brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device or ticket punches used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Placed a shaped hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring from coiled wire and fitted with formed wire retaining hole fitted to one of the arms. Some of the chrome plating has been worn off. There are no manufacturer markings on the punches. In 1906, the Anglo-Australian Brewery Company had purchased the Spring Creek brewery after the death of Frederick Allen. A.A. Billson, M.L.A., by then a director of Anglo-Australian Brewery, then converted the premises into a jam and fruit preserving works. The Beechworth District Jam, Pickle and Fruit Preserving Company Ltd started fruit preserving in 1907. In 1912, the jam works was sold to a Melbourne company, who traded as S.S. Jam Co./S.S. The bluestone is laid on crushed yellow ochre sandstone, with the base encircled by indigenous flowering plants. Each rock represents one of the six clans that made up the Boon wurrung. For thousands of years, Boon wurrung women and children congregated in this area during special periods in spring and summer. The area was rich in seafood and had fresh water wells dotted around it. Map, Robert Russell, Map Shewing the Site of Melbourne and the Position of the Huts & Buildings Previous to the Foundation of the Township by Sir Richard Bourke in 1837
Map shows the first layout of Melbourne by Government surveyor Robert Russell, who accompanied Governor Richard Bourke in 1837. The surveyed blocks extend from present-day Flinders Street to Lonsdale Street, and Spring Street to Spencer Street, with extensive vacant land west to a salt lake (afterwards Batman's Swamp, later drained), north beyond Flagstaff Hill and south towards South Melbourne. Vegetation coverage is indicated, and tracks and existing buildings and cultivated land are shown.Printed map was created by Day & Haghe, Lithographers to the Queen, sometime after 1838, when the company received its Royal appointment. Copies of the 1837 map exist in several major map collections in Australia; most are uncoloured. This particular map is the earliest in the Kew Historical Society's map collection. It is a nationally significant artefact. Black and white lithographed map hand-coloured in blue and yellow gouache of the town of Melbourne in 1837. In contrast to the original lithograph, the river and the township blocks are coloured blue and yellow. Photograph shows Llanberris House, built by Joseph and Mary Gundry on Iron Bark Station, west of the Anglesea Geelong Road, off Menzels Road above Spring Creek. The Gundrys took up Iron Bark station in 1844 and subsequently bought up more surrounding land. Just prior to Joseph's death in 1878, the property comprising 7721 acres was offered for sale as well as conditional rights to adjoining land. Back Creek is one of the tributaries of Gardiners Creek. It rises as a spring on the slopes of the hill at the corner of Canterbury Road and Elgar Road in Surrey Hills, the location of a Melbourne Water tower and reservoir. It has been channelled underground from this point in pipes as far as Union Road. South Surrey Park runs along both sides of Back Creek from where the creek crosses Union Rd near Rose Avenue to where it crosses Riversdale Road just west of Through Road. When her mother died James moved them into Ballarat. All the children attended Ballarat School of Mines. Ellie studied Telegraphy at SMB in 1874 and 1875.
