Magazine cutting contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 31, titled "History of the Ballarat Tramways" from the Feb. 1939 issue of the "SEC Magazine". Report on a recent paper by H.P. James to the Historical Society about the experimental battery tram in Ballarat in October 1888. The bus petrol engine International type was formerly in the possession of, one, Cruickshanks, an independent driver with a permit from the council to run between The Point of Pictures?, Ness St, Mt Pleasant via Bond St, Peel St. to City but the Electric Supply Coy purchased the vehicle and ran it from 1927 to 1929 (unpayable). The most use it was put to was on Mt Pleasant, but it ran also to High School as replacement for trams on Sebas if an electric tram was derailed. Perhaps the most unique trips it ever made was between Forest St. Wendouree to the Aerodrome, 1929, on the occasions of any ?? flight. Item 2488, page 81 showing two ESCo trams (one Californian combination and the other a Sebastopol tram) in Sturt St near Grenville St, with the original tramway shelter in the background and the other the mass photo of horse trams (See Reg. The envelope has been glued to the back cover of the book and is address to "Mr. James Inspector / Electric Supply". Seven overseas stamps have been stuck to the envelope. The letter dated 11/10/1937 from an unknown person who lived at 305 Eyre St Ballarat, not signed, outlines the building the horse tram depot in Wendouree Parade. The person put in a quote as the plumber. Notes various aspects of working on the site, materials, difficulties, Thompson and Moore of the Adelaide as the contractors, number of people on the job, problems with the construction, wind damage, building the workers cottages, their rooves and the cash boxes for the conductors.
