Bernard Neal was became Galen Catholic College's 3rd lay principal in 2010, taking over from Mr. Dave Seiter. Mr. Neal served as the school principal until the end of 2021. This dress was made for the Melbourne Show in 1993 and won 3rd prize. It was designed by Jean Inglis who was inspired by the Blue Triangle Butterfly (Scientific name: Graphium sarpedon choredon). The Warp was 2/24 commercially brought black wool with a “tie down” thread of black polyester and Weft of the same 2/24 wool 2 ply. Jean utilised a twill technique devised by Theo Morgan in creating the dress. The dress was handwoven by Jean Inglis with the help of Ruth Rondell with some of the pattern and final sewing. Black dress stretching from below the knees, reaching up to the neckline and down to the hands in the sleeve. The dress has three butterflies attached to the front approximately 50mm in diameter going from right knee to left hip in a nonvisible diagonal line. Lower half of dress has ten thin blue & green lines of varying lengths, reaching a max height of the hip. The neck of dress has four frills of blue and green colour. The longest two frills are in the centre pointing diagonally outwards towards the hands. The second layer of frills is shorter and further around the neckline towards the shoulders. The dress is completed with a cape of blue and green colour with a thick black seam separating each segment of colour. The cape sits on the shoulders and droops to a height of the hips. John James Barnes , 23 year-old labourer of Marong Victoria enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) 8 September 1914 and was allocated to 8th Light Horse Regiment. He had two years pre-war service with the light horse. He served on Gallipoli, was evacuated ill and subsequently returned to Australia. The 8th Light Horse Regiment AIF was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in September 1914 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander White and formed part of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade. Geoffrey R Fink volunteered for military service in early 1940. He served initially with 3rd Division A.A.S.C. but was discharged as being in a reserved occupation at the Aircraft Production Commission. He resigned from the Commission and joined the AIF on 28 July 1941 and was allotted to 2/8th Armoured Regiment. He served with the regiment in New Guinea and on return to Australia was transferred to No 41 Landing Craft Company serving out the war in the South Pacific. Geoffrey Fink died 14 March 2008 aged 86 at Wangaratta Victoria.This object is a well provenance, in good condition and completeness, and is a fine example of the uniform worn by a soldier who served in the Second World War (1939-45) in an unusual combination of roles, armoured corps and water transport. To honour the commitment of its staff, badges were awarded to commemorate years service. These consisted of the Vision Australia Foundation symbol of an eye (flat surface for the iris and areas immediately below and above the eye, and roughened surface for the background of the iris), in gold. A number reflecting the years of service was attached by a loop below the badge in gold. Service was commemorated at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th and 40th year. Having ascertained that there was no State Government subsidy available for children's homes they reported that the proposed development of Blamey House was not viable and suggested two alternatives: moving children over 16 years of age into auxiliary accommodation, and selling Harelands and Blamey House whilst using Stanhope for co-ed accommodation. The pusher belonged to Edgar Alfred Unger and his wife Thelma Mary nee Richardson and was first used for their eldest daughter Marjorie in 1960. The Unger family lived on a property in Thurgoona which is now the location of the Thurgoona Golf Course. Edgar died on 3rd April 1957 in Thurgoona, New South Wales. Thelma Mary Richardson was a descendant of the Frauenfelder family which was amongst the first German Immigrants to arrive in the Albury district during the 1950s.
