Children in photo identified as John Colin Reaburn, also known as Jack, and his young brother, Wallace James Reaburn. The Reaburn family came to Surrey Hills in the 1890's and first lived in Russell Street. John Colin Reaburn (B 1899 in Russell St, Surrey Hills; D 1987, Box Hill) and Wallace James Reaburn (B 1910; D 1996) were the children of John Reaburn (1873-1963) and his wife Jane (Jeannie) Nelson Harkins (1875-1959). They has a sister Winifred Jean Reaburn (1904-1983). The family later lived in Union Road on the SW corner of Guildford Road. The house was called 'Fairbank'. John completed his education to eighth grade of Surrey Hills State School, going on to University High School and became an accountant. He later moved away from the area but when the collection of local history commenced in the 1970's, John was living near Belmore Road and became involved. He had a clear recall of early days and played a valuable part in recording details of early Surrey Hills.B/W photo (photo dark) of two young children. Photocopy from souvenir program for Vermont School Jubilee 1868-1919 featuring Mr John Broiwn, the first Schoolmaster. John Brown was the second Head Teacher at Eltham State School No. 209 (Eltham Primary) in Dalton Street having taken over from John Clarke in 1889. He died in office 23 Sept 1906 after a short severe illness at age 55 and is buried in Box Hill Cemetery (Evelyn Observer 28 Sep 1906 p2). John Austin Anderson was the son of Daniel William and Elizabeth Jane Anderson, and husband of Ethel M. Anderson of 312 Ripon Street South, Ballarat. John Anderson was a sergeant with the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company. He was 34 years of age when he was killed in action in France on 01 July 1916. John Burnham Tame Jnr (known as 'Jack' and also 'Burnie' or 'Bernie') was born at Carngham in 1884. He was the oldest son of John Burnham Tame and his wife Sarah Tame, née Shields.
