Owner 1960s: Smith. Eliza Beale and Miss Taylor were occupiers of the flat. The Margaret Ball (Pre 1960s Houses) Collection was a personal project initiated to mark the year 2000 and arose as a result of the disappearance of many pre-1960s parts of Eltham due to development. Approximately 200 pre-1960s style houses that were left in Eltham between Main Road and east to Bible Street, between Cecil Street to the north and south to Dalton Street were photographed in late 1999. Not all of the houses could be photographed; some because the garden or trees blocked the view of the house, others because of rubbish or cars were in the way, some because people were working on the house or in the gardens at the time.Roll of 35mm colour negative film, 5 of 6 stripsFuji 200eltham, houses, streets, margaret ball (pre 1960s houses) collection, dudley street -

Book - Novel, H Rider Haggard, author, Smith and the Pharaohs and other tales, 1920
H. Rider Haggard (1856-1925) (Sir H. Rider Haggard), was a British author of fiction and non-fiction works and had letters and articles published in newspapers and journals. The page opposite the book's Fly page lists some of the topics Rider Haggard covered; Parliamentary Blue Book, political history, works on agriculture, country life, social history, travel, novels and romances. This edition of the book was published for Laurie's Colonial Library by the firm T. Werner Laurie Limited of London. It was made specifically for the British Colonies and India. This book is part of Flagstaff Hill's Pattison Collection. This edition of the book was published by T Werner Laurie as part of Laurie's Colonial Library, books destined only for the British Colonies and India, The book has additional importance for its connection to the Pattison Collection, which, along with other items at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, was originally part of the Warrnambool Mechanics' Institutes’ Collection. The Warrnambool Mechanics’ Institute book collection has historical and social significance for its strong association with the Mechanics Institute movement and its important role in people's intellectual, cultural and social development throughout the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. The collection of books is a rare example of an early lending library and its significance is enhanced by the survival of an original collection of many volumes. The Warrnambool Mechanics' Institute’s publication collection is of both local and state significance.Smith and the Pharaohs and other tales Author: H Rider Haggard Publisher: T Werner Laurie Ltd Date: 1st published 1920 Inscriptions include a label, stickers, stamp and a handwritten inscription. Photograph - 'Berrington', 29 Sackville Street, Kew, 1988
'Berrington' in Sackville Street was built in 1888 for Job Smith, builder, who was the first owner of this substantial two-storey house. The property was given an initial N.A. V. of £125 3 and it is possible that Smith was the contractor for his house.By the turn of the century 'Berrington' was identified as having thirteen rooms and an N.A.V. of £13 while the house remained in the hands of the Smith family until the late 1930s. The new owner at that stage was a Mrs Pederson who convened the house into three flats 6 while in 1951 it was further subdivided to become seven units. (Kew Conservation Study, 1988)Colour photographic positive of one of 'Berrington'. The building is a large two storeyed house typical of the late Victorian period. It remains substantially intact with a cast iron verandah dominating the front and side facades, that has the added distinction of a fine cast iron frieze that at ground floor level has two tiers. Behind the verandah, the facade is asymmetrical. There is a central six panelled door with a fine semicircular fanlight, and segmentally arched windows to the ground floor and on one side of the door there is a polygonal bay window that extends up the two floors. The eaves and chimneys are decorated with Italianate brackets. (Kew Conservation Study, 1988)berrington -- sackville street -- kew (vic.), job smith -
