F C Perry served as a Driver and was with the 2/47th Australian Transport Platoon at the time of discharge. Perry enlisted in the Citizen Military Forces from the 5th November, 1941 to the 10 August, 1942 and then transferred to the Australian Military Forces from 11th August, 1942 to the 3rd April, 1946. -

Personal history written by Bill Anderson of his experiences in the Australian Army in WW2. He volunteered at the age of 18 years after Japan entered the war, as an Ally to Germany and Italy, the aggressors. Taken prisoner by the Japanese and held in camps in Malaya and Singapore, enduring previously untold horrors at the hands of the Japanese captors. He enlisted in the A.I.F. and was a Naval Trainee at Flinders Naval Depot in 1941. During these years Max Coward was described as a cartoonist and illustrator, and was attached to the Naval Intelligence Division in 1945, producing stories and drawings for the Navy newspaper Dit. His work was reproduced in the Christmas annual, HMAS Mk IV and the Army educational journal, Salt. Coward was active as a printmaker in the 1970s. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. In December 1941 8th Light Horse (Indi) converted from horse to mechanised initially as 8th Reconnaissance Battalion then in July 1942 became 8th Cavalry Regiment. Served in Northern Territory. Domestic object - Sewing Machine, Jones Sewing Machine
This Jones sewing machine was one of the few sewing machines that accompanied the Germans who were deported from Palestine in 1941 to Australia where they were interned at Tatura. The machine was owned by Nelly Wied (nee Glenk). See notes in Item receipt form.Lid is plywood constructed with domed top. Brown handle on top and a clip each end to fasten to machine base. Machine is on a wooden base with clips on each end to fasten to lid. Right hand side of machine has a rectangular hole with wooden lid and brown wooden knob. To keep accessories in. Machine is made from metal, painted black and has fancy gold patterns on front right, "Jones" in gold and gold design around the metal base. WW2 General Service Respirator (GSR) Gas Mask WWII made in 1939 and the Canister was made 1941. Mask made of black rubber with glass eye slots with metal rims. Metal nost piece. Covered in khaki fabric. Elasticized straps to hold mask in place, with a tan circular cloth covered rubber tube that connects to the canister.
