The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.Group of NDSN staff/tutors outside Lister House. Demonstrates the type and style of lamp used in tramways or street cars, made by a company who specialised in the manufacture of electrical products.Electric Lamp or light bulb - stored in a cardboard box with shredded paper. Lamp manufactured by the Edison Company of the USA, for "Street Railway" use. Consists of a glass bulb with a wire vertical filament with a screwed base. Marks on top of the lamp have faded. Filament appears to be working order. Information on the top of the lamp and the box provided by the donor.
