Each year Melbourne Legacy would have an Annual Dinner for the installation of the incoming President (Changeover dinner). It is one of the most important events of the year. Up until 2005 each President served for one year. Whilst the rules of the Club nominate one year terms, since 2005 Presidents have been renominated to serve for a second year. A valuable insight into the genesis of Melbourne Legacy, as well as the life and work of the founder of Melbourne Legacy, Lieut Gen Sir Stanley George Savige KBE, CB, DSO, MC, ED (1890 - 1954). The notation H5 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy (late 1960s/early 1970s by Frank Doolan and Brian Armstrong- see item at 00456). The Answer is a newsletter in magazine format that is sent to the widows that are helped by Melbourne Legacy. For the widows who are sight impaired a copy of the newsletter is audio described onto CD by Vision Australia and posted to them. It contains information about meetings and activities. This edition contained articles on the founder of Legacy Stan Savige, the ESO collaboration at Legacy House, ANVAM Disability Program Day, and widows having milestone birthdays. A Vale notice that was published in the Bulletin in 1975 on the death of Legatee Oswald Gawler. He joined Legacy in Adelaide in 1929 and was president of Melbourne Legacy in 1943. He served on the Co-ordinating Council for many years. In World War One he had served on Gallipoli and in France and Belgium. In 1917 he was severely gassed which impacted his health and eyesight in later years His professional career was as an actuary and his forecasts helped make many policy decisions in Legacy. An Australian flag given to students at the annual "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students". In 2023 it was the 100th Anniversary of Legacy and special flags were printed with one side showing the Legacy logo and 100th anniversary logo. The service was held on 5th April and was the 91st time it was held. The ceremony provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of the Anzac spirit, the significance of the Shrine and the meaning of Anzac Day. An alphabetical list of members of Legacy in 1932, with 170 names. The second list has the member name, their membership number, a business address and personal address. One of the few lists found that include the rank of the Legatee. Early in Legacy's creation it was determined that importance was not to be placed on the rank of the Legatee and all were seen as equals. Aided by Williamstown Commando Company with training at Nidrie Quarry. Ron Barassi was a Legacy boy after his father died in Tobruk. He donated a lot of time and was involved with Legacy in many ways over the years. The photos were mounted in an album of events that happened for Junior Legatees in 2001, including a trip to the Aquarium, a trip to Luna Park, horse riding and fishing and a Melbourne Legacy Leadership Group Christmas party. This Christmas party appears to be different to the one for the Leadership group, who were much older children. Melbourne Legacy arranged many events for Junior Legatees to experience. Part of a Bulletin newsletter that includes a poem by L.F.J. (Legatee Leigh Johns) titled Reflections. The poem honours the service to Legacy by Wendy Faulkner who came to Legacy on 13 September 1965 after working on the stage. Rest of the page and its reverse item highlights the Induction of three legatees, Amendments to diary and mailing lists, Transfers between branches, Resignations, and Nominations. The Melbourne Legacy 1979 - 56th Annual Report with presidents report and photos of events through the year. The President was Legatee Bill Mehan. It mentions there were more than 900 members of Melbourne Legacy. The executive officer Ivan Layton had been inducted into Melbourne Legacy before he went on sick leave. Unfortunately he passed away leaving a contribution of almost 30 years service. The widows club rooms were renovated and reopened with 350 widows in attendance. Images from a Legacy Bowls tournament, there are people in watching the games and also Sir Dallas Brooks speaking at the end. Names of the legatees are not known. The trophy awarded to the winner was named after Sir Dallas Brooks who was a patron of Melbourne Legacy when he was Governor of Victoria (1949-1963). Melbourne Legacy held regular bowls tournaments for Legatees. Some events were as a fundraiser for Legacy and well as a social event for legatees. The date is estimated to be the 1960s as it was with other slides from that period. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. A photo of Legatees Colin Bannister and Ray Ward with other legatees and guests. The event is not known but believed to be during Colin Bannister's year as president in 1985. During that time Ray Ward was President of the Perth Legacy. (Ray would later move to Melbourne and served term as President of Melbourne Legacy in 1996.) So it is possibly an annual Legacy Conference where legatees from all parts of Australia come together.
