Document produced by the Transit Research Corporation of New York, details the specifications for the Presidents Conference Committee (PCC) for a streetcar or tram for American cities. The MMTB researched this type of tramcar for use in Melbourne, taking out a licence for their production. This document dated 1/4/1947 with revision to 1/6/1950 would have been part of the licence agreement. Unfortunately, there were insufficient funds to build this type of tramcar. Only tram 980 which was based on a modified W6 class body was fitted with PCC equipment, later transferred to prototype PCC tram 101. Transcript of Evidence given to the Parliamentary Committee of Accounts by Mr W O Strangward, Secretary to the MMTB 13/9/1927 - in response to the question "What would be the extra cost to the public if motor buses were substituted for the existing tramways?" Looks at Fare Revenue, operating cost per vehicle mile, relative average speeds, number of tram and bus miles required to carry 224,000,000 passengers, standing passengers and capacity. Notes that 2.25 buses would be required to replace each existing tramcar. Examines Annual Operating cost for both forms, capital outlay including provision for spares, amortization of the present tramway debt and cost of roads. Has a financial summary showing the additional cost would be 1.878,500 pounds to run buses requiriing a fare increase of 75%. Report by the Victorian Parliamentary Public Works Committee on "The Plenty Road, Preston, Tramway Extension Inquiry" - 1967. The inquiry examined the MMTB's proposal to extend the East Preston line 0.7miles or 1.3km. The Committee took evidence from the MMTB, bus operators, the Victorian Railways, residents, La Trobe University, Preston City Council and others. The Committee recommended against the proposal. The report lists those members of Parliament involved. The line was subsequently extended by 1.2 kilometres from Tyler Street to Boldrewood Parade during 1983 and subsequently to Bundoora.
