The bloused "Shorts" have two tiny pleats on each side of the centre back seam. These cups come from Miura in Japan. Miura is the sister city of Warrnambool and is situated on the Miura Peninsula 50 kilometres south of Tokyo. It has a population of 56,000 people and is the centre of a fishing industry with some vegetable produce. The sister city ties with Warrnambool date from 1992 when the Warrnambool Miura Friendship Committee was formed and the cities share in cultural exchanges. These cups are of interest as a memento of the ties between the city of Warrnambool and the city of Miura in Japan. These white china cups come from Miura in Japan. They have the name ‘Miura’ in blue cursive script on one side and on the other side is a multi-coloured image of a boat with fish and fishermen. The cups also have Japanese writing on the bottom edge. The sample of crochet lace is an example of a handmade item that would have been used to decorative purpose around the home. It may have been used to edge curtains, a table runner or a mantlepiece. Smaller pieces were used to edge towels. This purse or coin bag is in pristine condition. It has been handmade from soft brown leather. A strong leather loop has bee added to the top side edge, perhaps for attaching a tie or hook. The ring is used as a closure by folding the edges of the opening together and sliding the loop over the top. It is believed to be a handmade one-off item for domestic use. This purse or money bag is representative of an everyday item similar to those used through the centuries for the convenience of carrying coins and other small, personal effects. Similar items were used by both men and women.
