These two plans are copies and show drawings for a proposed turntable at the Warrnambool Railway Station and railway crossings at Gilles Street in the Liebig Street precinct. The Warrnambool Railway was opened in 1890 and the Warrnambool Railway Station building was erected a few years later. These plans, being copies, are of minor interest as they show plans of some projects in the Warrnambool Railway Station precinct in the latter half of the 20th century.These are two sheets of cream-coloured paper with plans (copies of original) drawn up in black ink. The drawings are fading somewhat and are faint in places. Painted to resemble the aircraft flown by Captain H. Watson of 4 Squadron AFC in mid 1918. Herbert Gilles Watson was the highest scoring New Zealand ace in the AFC. The first Lildale Show Girl competition was held in 1957 as part if the annual Lilydale Show. The Lilydale Shoe had stopped during the war years and reformed in 1954. The show was restarted by John Plant and Lloyd Gill ( owners of the Lilydale Express) Black and white photograph of the five women who won the highest places in the First Lilydale Show Girl competition in 1957. Diggers & Mining. Chinese on the goldfeild. Gold. The census of 1854 showed only, 2,341 Chinese in Victoria, but it was taken at a time when their numbers were increasing rapidly. In 1854, 4,920 Chinese arrived by sea in small, over-crowded vessels; and 11,289 came in 1855. Many pictures drawn by Gill in 1854 and 1855 show Chinese on the goldfields. Markings: 9 994.GOL. This booklet gives information on the Cavenett families from 1840 to 1970. John and Eliza Cavenett with four children set sail from England to Adelaide in 1840 but Eliza and one child died on the voyage. John Cavenett married again and settled in Adelaide. Most descendants of John Cavenett that are mentioned in the booklet also lived in South Australia but some settled later in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. The book has been produced by Kingsley Ireland. This book is of some interest as an example of a family history written by a descendant of the pioneer family. As far as can be ascertained it does not have any local significance. This is soft cover booklet of 41 pages. The cover has a cream-coloured background with sepia-coloured photographs of three Cavenett family members on the front cover and a sepia-coloured reproduction of an S.T. Gill sketch on the back cover. The book contains a Foreword, a Preamble, information on members of the Cavenatt families, an Appendix and a Surname Index. This is a framed photograph of the men's pool at the Warrnambool Salt Water Baths. These Baths were originally built at the end of Gilles Street on the line of the present railway line in 1876 but were rebuilt in 1889 further north in Gilles Street when the railway line was opened. The water was pumped from the sea, initially by a windmill and later by a gas pump. The men's pool was 100 feet by 50 feet and the women's pool was 60 feet by 30 feet with bathing strictly segregated in the 19th century. A building nearby housed marble cubicles with hot spa baths with the water heated on the site and a caretaker's cottage completed the complex. Men's nude bathing was a feature of the early 20th century. Originally built by a local public company the Baths were taken over by the Warrnambool Council. These baths were superseded by the opening in 1961 of an Olympic Pool In Warrnambool. The site and the remaining buildings of the old sea water baths are now heritage-listed and today form part of the headquarters of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society.This photograph is of historical significance as a depiction of the Warrnambool Salt water Baths in the early 20th century. The sea water baths were built in 1876 on the line of the railway track and were moved to the Gilles Street site with the advent of the railway. Salt water was drawn from the sea by a windmill and later by steam pump. The main pool was 100 feet by 50 feet. The present site of Heritage Works, the offices of the Warrnambool & District Society Inc. and Warrnambool Family History Group, is on the area of the Town of Warrnambool's Swimming Baths of 1890s.
