Pte N T Simmons enlisted on 14 October 1915 and was taken on strength of 59 Battalion in April 1916. He was reported missing on 19 July 1916 and latter confirmed killed in action ar Fromelles. He was 21 years of age. Pte Simmons was born in Kyneton 1895. The annual dawn-service held at Gallipoli on ANZAC Day is an event many Australians attend to commemorate the first ANZACs. In 2010 Ian Wright visited Anzac Cove, Gallipoli the site of the first Anzacs landing, read this poem on behalf of his friend Ed.Typed copy of a poem titled Ed’s Prayer Gallipoli by Ian Wright. The original idea to create a monument was conceived by William Cameron. The monument was first constructed of cement block tiles and was a memorial to all those who served in WW1. Later gates were added to the precinct in memory of those who served in WW2. Restoration of the Memorial took place in 1995, with the original tiles being replaced by replaced by re-inforced concrete. Mt Macedon Memorial Cross is a significant War Memorial in the district. ANZAC Day dawn service is held at the Mt Macedon Cross, it is an impressive setting.Glazed precast cement block coloured to resemble sandstone, mounted on wooden stand. Dvr Young was born in Kyneton. He enlisted in 1917 in the Light Horse Regiment and served in France. The building was the former Sunbury Fire Station. It was in Evans Street on the site where the shopping square has been built. Mount Holden can be seen in the background. A newer building was built for the CFA on the opposite side of Evans Street and closer to Macedon Street. In 1995, the upper school students from Bulla Primary School attended a camp at Hanging Rock Reserve which is part of the Macedon Ranges. At this camp the students were shown basic rock climbing skills and explored the rock for its interesting geological formations. Hanging Rock, also known as Mount Diogenes, is the traditional land of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Woi Wurrung and Taungurung people. It is a mamelon formed when magma poured from a vent and congealed. There are interesting rock functions at the site such as the Colonnade, the Eagle and the UFO. The highest point on the rock is 718metres above sea level and 105 meters above the land at its base.Hanging Rock is an important geological and volcanic structure in the Macedon Ranges area and in central Victoria. On 17th January 1856, two acres of land was granted for the building of a school and church on that site in Macedon Street. "In 1966, the Mount Cottrell Fire Brigades Group was formed as a way of consolidating the smaller groups around Melton, Rockbank, Toolern Vale, Sydenham, Truganina and Werribee. Its headquarters were established at the home of Ernest ‘Bon’ and Edna Barrie in Ferris Road, Melton.
