Group photograph of thirty-four Scouts, a leader (probably R.J. Poewrie) and an unknown male dignitary in their uniforms, lined up in front of a huge Union Jack. All of the Scouts are wearing the trademark Scout Hat – which given its four dimples were colloquially known as ‘lemon squeezers’. The leader is wearing a military-style uniform, which was not uncommon during this early period of Scouting. Placed in front of the Scouts are two drums and three bugles. Early attempt to form regimental band took place in 1948, but it failed. This drum indicatesit was more successful later but it is not thought the band followed the regiment to NE Victoria in 1955. At the botttom of the painting, Walgett council dug up two old Kings sitting up face to face with their legs crossed, with their Tin King plates around their necks; Their head bands of kangaroo teeth were still inbedded in their skulls. The water dog stories are at spots along river "don't go down thereon the bend (Namour Researve River) the water dog witll get you" Nan used to tell us. It is believed that the water dog makes whirlpools and will drown you. He makes a druming sound, which can be heard along the Namoir, Barwon, Darling, Gwydir, Mihi and the Narran River; and the Duck is part of the creation story, with the twin platypus. It tells how the water dog kidnapped her and kept her in a cave on the river bank, she escaped back to her people. Cream is put in the metal drum, and in the surrounding space within the wooden bucket. A mixture of ice and salt is packed, turning the crank wheel rotated and paddle in the drum and mixed the cream as it froze within the encircling ice.Wooden assay barrel with two galvanised metal bands around it. Sealed inside is a cast iron drum for freezing the cream, with a cast iron hand-cranked handle and a wooden knob. Mechanism is attached to barrel with bolts and screws.
