Document - GOLD RUSHES AROUND BENDIGO
Typed and hand written notes on 'Gold Rushes around Bendigo', Eaglehawk Police Station, Bells In and Around Bendigo, Bendigo Historical Society Newsletter, Mr Henry Jones - Gold Buyer, and Sir John Quick. Gold Rushes Around Bendigo tells of some gold finds around Bendigo. Eaglehawk Police Station tells of the Building of the Log Lockups at Eaglehawk and White Hills and where the idea came from. Also the cost of building and source of logs. Bells In and Around Bendigo tell of a tram employee ringing a bell and shouting to all that the tram terminus at the Railway Station was discontinued. When this was sufficiently known the bell went to the Bridge Street Methodist Church. The BHS Newsletter mentions business men's names and connection with their trade. Mr Henry jones - Gold Buyer mentions where his office was and that you could buy gold and money could be exchanged as well. White invitation with black printing inviting Mr. & Mrs. J. McIntyre to a Ball, held in the Town Hall on Tuesday June 28th, 1887 by The Mayor of Sandhurst and Mrs. Hayes. Bendigo Coat of Arms at the top of the invitation. It has a horse on the left and a bull on the right side of a shield with quartz on the top left, pick and shovel on the right, a sheaf of wheat on the bottom left and a bunch of grapes on the right. A flag at the top has the Southern Cross on it. Document - EAGLEHAWK DAHLIA & ARTS FESTIVAL DEBUTANTE CABARET BALL, 16/03/1995
Three fold white card with pink printing. Card has border with a building and dahlias in the centre and Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Festival Debutante Cabaret Ball. The ball was held on two evenings, the first, the debutantes were presented to Commissioner Maxine Crouch and the second were presented to Commissioner Maurie Sharkey and Mrs. Carol Sharkey. The pianist was Mrs. Lorna Thomas. The Chaperones were Mrs. Heather Bull and Mrs. Gwen Harvey. The balls were held on Thursday, March16th, 1995 and Friday, March 17th, 1995. Thomas Crouch Watts was born on March 7th. 1865, to Joseph and Susan Watts. Before the real estate business commenced, Thomas and his brother were in partnership as booksellers and stationers in a shop at View Point. Thomas lived in a fine house in Rowan Street, which was called 'Ottawa' Thomas started his real estate business in the early 1900s in a shop in View Street. His daughter Edna was the book keeper and typist, Stewart Watson was the salesman and Stanley Phipps (Edith Lunn's father) was the property manager and valuer. When Thomas Watts died in 1914, his daughter took over the running of the business. She married Stewart Watson in 1918. Eventually the name of the business was changed to Bishop and Earl. Thomas Crouch Watts was born on March 7th. 1865, to Joseph and Susan Watts. Before the real estate business commenced, Thomas and his brother were in partnership as booksellers and stationers in a shop at View Point. Thomas lived in a fine house in Rowan Street, which was called 'Ottawa' Thomas started his real estate business in the early 1900s in a shop in View Street. His daughter Edna was the book keeper and typist, Stewart Watson was the salesman and Stanley Phipps (Edith Lunn's father) was the property manager and valuer. Black and white copy of a photo of the Rose of Australia Hotel. The hotel is made of brick and has a bull nose veranda with iron lace between the top of the veranda poles. Above the veranda on the wall is painted the name A Thomas. Above this are three higher decorative pieces, the first one has Rose of, The second has Australia and the third has Hotel. Written under the photo is - Rose of Australia Hotel. Photo taken about 1906. Hotel rebuilt after original wooden structure was destroyed by fire. The Long Gully State School is in the Right Hand. the Thomas family in the photo are Left to Right:- 1. Syd Thomas (Killed in World War 1), 4. Alf Thomas (owner), 5. Claude Thomas, 6. Les Thomas, 7.
