The unmarked graves of the children of two Greensborough pioneer families lie in a private cemetery on the Plenty River. Burials occurred between 1848 and 1860. Born in 1883, Herb was the eldest of David and Martha’s 8 children. He moved to Greensborough with the family at age 17. He was a good sportsman, playing cricket and excelling at wood chopping winning many ribbons at shows. He moved to Brunswick after his marriage in 1917 where he worked as a carter. On 02/04/2016, Greensborough Rotary and Greensborough Hstorical Society members gathered to unveil an updated plaque at the Pioneer Children's Cemetery on the Plenty River. These photos show the new plaque and Steve Whatmough viewing the plaque. Steve is a descendant of the Whatmough family whose children, with their cousins the Partingtons, were buried in this place. During the 1940's and 1950's, all State Primary Schools gave students fresh milk during the 'summer' months. Annual wildflower shows took over the Hall's Gap Hall during spring and, in the 1930's, transformed it into a veritable wonderland. So popular were these displays that they have continued through until present times, the format has altered but the display of flowers remains the same. Ladies' Committees were formed to sell art and crafts during shows, and much of the revenue from these events went towards a future new building. In 1938, the Wildflower Show was to be held on 30 September and 1 October, and was to be opened by A. McDonald, Esq., MLA. Admission in that year was 1/- (one shilling), with children being half price (a comparison with record 388 shows that this was the same as the 1933 price). Afternoon tea or supper were also 1/- and an entry fee of 3d (three pennies) was charged per exhibit. In that year the organising secretary was H.
