20th Eltham Community Festival and last under the auspices of the Shire of Eltham. The Grand Parade focussing on the theme "Echoes of Eltham - Celebrating the visions of Eltrham from the past and into the future" was headed by Jock Read on his horse Lofty who had been filmed in an Anzac Day Parade on an earlier horse which had featured in the television show Matlock. The parade travelled north along Main Street to just past the Post Office then back south to Panther Place. Following the parade is video footage from a helicopter of Alistair Knox Park, displays along Main Road and activities in Alistair Knox Park and the Rugby oval along with stationary engines, helicopter joyrides, Eltham People's Choir, music entertainment. Scenes also from the Diamond Valley Railway at Eltham Lower Park and finishing with the fireworks display. At the end of the video is a promotional video for Dynavision Video Production, a local video production company that produced the video and Diamond Photos (Kodak Express). One of the highlights of the festival was a tree planting ceremony in Alistair Knox Park to celebrate 123 years of the Shire of Eltham led by Shire President Cr. Tents set up along the Diamond Creek on a property that would become "Willandra," a poultry farm and then in 1956, an aged care facility and residence known as Judge Book Village. It is located west of the railway line, north of the railway station in Eltham on Diamond Street. it is believed that the convention camp was for young people for the purpose of Christian fellowship, bible study and worship. Other activities included local hikes. A report in the Evelyn Observer on Friday, January 6, 1911, p2 noted: "ELTHAM. The holiday season brought out lots of visitors to our beauty spot. The visitors booked to Eltham on Boxing-Day numbered about 1900, and New Year's Day (Monday) some 1500. The threatening aspect of the weather on the morning of the 2nd and no doubt deterred many from venturing out. Fine weather has prevailed throughout, and the chief sufferers are those who catered for hot, thirsty crowds and did not find them so bent on ices and fluid refreshments as is usual at this time of the year. Campers have been strongly in evidence. One especially large camp of Christian enthusiasts being located near the station with dining booth, gospel tent, cooking range, etc., all complete, numbering some twenty tents. These good folk evidently intend to make the best of both worlds, but some of their negro camp meeting methods appear to have shocked the sensibilities of sober-going folk. With the exception of a slight ruction on the railway platform on Monday night, which will probably be aired in the local court, the holiday makers as a whole were very orderly." The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' This photograph was taken during a bus excursion to Tatong in North East Victoria, held by the Wooragee Landcare Group in September 2004. The purpose of the excursion was to look at land use on small farms. As part of this, the excursion included a visit to Samaria Farm, run by Sue and Don Matheson. In this photo, taken at Samaria Farm, Don Matheson is discussing the management of his commercial rose garden. Events like this meet Wooragee Landcare's organisational goals of promoting best land management practices, cooperating and engaging with landowners, and providing information on plant management and care. The Tawonga branch of the Country Women's Association commenced on the 7th February 1946 and often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve the health, welfare and education for women and children in the country.Women living in Tawonga were mostly on farms and in 1946, when the branch commenced, would have been feeling more remote with WWII having had an effect on available workers and the well being of the women and children.Black and white case with reinforced corners on the lid an container, metal handle and metal clip fasteners.
