It is possible that E.M. Gibson left these photographs at the College when she retired from teaching there. Photographs relate to her work in designing new planting around the Administration Building and a general record of what the whole site looked like during this time. Various numbering systems have been used on reverse of photographs but the most consistent one has been used for cataloguing and sorting. These photographs include some of the missing ones from Series 1, 2, 4, 6 and 76 in B09.0005 and are the same as those in the negatives B09.0001. Possibly one person (J.L. Provan?) has taken the photographs and E.M. Gibson has picked out the ones she wanted. Newspaper cuttings of an article and accompanying photo in "The Herald" December 9, 1931. The photo is of four students carrying pitchforks of oats, with the caption: "Girl harvesters at Burnley Horticultural School see plenty of the practical side of farming. They are carrying the last sheaves of an oats crop stacked yesterday." The accompanying article, "Burnley's Long Career," describes the students activities and the history of the school. It discusses the changes in the girls' uniforms over the years and the types of girls who take the course: those wanting a career as gardeners, those wishing to make 'pin money' from part-time gardening and those who regard gardening as a domestic hobby. Rob Upson became a volunteer at the Bendigo Visitor Centre in 1998. The Staff produced a monthly newsletter called ‘The Grapevine’. Being reasonably new to Bendigo, Rob became interested in its history and began writing articles to share with the volunteers. He called them ‘Grapevine Cuttings’ under the pen name of ‘Merlot’. Rob wrote about 90 articles over a period of 12 years until ‘The Grapevine’ was finally pruned and shutdown. This exercise book has been used by Winnifred (Winnie) Goodall in 1916 when she was a pupil at the Warrnambool Technical School. The material in the book mostly consists of letter-writing practice for business purposes. The Goodalls were pioneer settlers in the Warrnambool district with William and Ellen Goodall arriving in the area in the late 1840s. Eventually they had a property named Wanstead on the Allansford Road in East Warrnambool. One son, William, was an early manager of the Framlingham Aboriginal Settlement. Another son, Thomas, was a Warrnambool law clerk and Winnie, (born 1901 to mother Leah), was his granddaughter. The Warrnambool Technical School was established in 1913.This exercise book is of interest as an example of school work completed by a Warrnambool Technical School student in 1916. It is also of interest because it belonged to Winnie Goodall, a member of an important pioneering family in the Warrnambool district. This is a school exercise book with a cardboard cover and 17 double pages. The cover has a mottled pattern of brown and mauve and the pages have been attached by metal staples but the staples have been removed. The pages have blue ruled lines with handwritten material in blue and black ink. Some of the pages have red hand-drawn lines. The cover is slightly torn. On the first page two cartoon sketches from a newspaper have been pasted in. The front cover has a printed label in blue and white colouring pasted on, with handwritten information on the label. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. The school exercise book belonged to Florence Tyler who was born in 1884 and died in 1914 at 30 years of age. Two letters within the exercise book are dated 1898 so it is presumed this is the year Florence compiled the book. The school was Warrnambool State School No. 1743 which opened in 1876 after the earlier Warrnambool Common School closed. This exercise book is of interest as an example of school subjects and standards covered at a 6th grade level in the late 19th century. A school exercise book of 50 pages. The hard cover of the book has a blue pattern and a label to identify the school and student. The pages are ruled with handwriting in black ink and ruled dividing lines in red ink. Each page covers a different subject - English (grammar, parsing, writing, spelling, syntax, poetry), Arithmetic, Geography, History, Science and Music.
