This is an actual battle map used by Australian Forces in the battle of the Somme in France in April 1917. It is an ordinance survey map of the trenches in the area. It is framed in two pieces, one being the main map and the other the legend used to read the map. Trophy established to recognise winners of shooting trophy of unidentified unit but most likely 8/7th Battalion, Royal Victorian Regiment.Brown wooden stained trophy. Mounted on top of gold coloured tin lid and mounted on lid 2 metal rifles about 10 cm high leaning against a metal plate. With the name of trophy engraved. On front is two metal plates. First plate engraved with 6 past winners and second plate along bottom mostly empty with just one past winner.Title engraved; "Somme Barracks Rifle Shooting Trophy". Found in Somme Area by donor.Circular steel cap, with threaded base to attach to top of 18 pounder shell (Air burst fuse).Numerical scale (see photo above) with gradations up to 9.5 for setting range at which fuse would ignite.

The Military Medal was awarded to T Adams for his actions during the Battle of Dernacourt,Somme, France ,1918This Military Medal is historically significant for it was won during a critical battle in WWI where Australian troops were rushed into position to halt the German Offensive called Operation Michael. Taking up the role as a Lewis Gunner Thomas Adams was able to protect a section of the Front line he was assigned to. The helmet was captured by William J Hanna, Royal Irish Fusiliers. Hanna was wounded during the 1916 Battle of the Somme.World War One German Army steel helmet. The outer surface is painted. Two lugs/ventilation holes are visible on each side. Rivets securing the missing headband are also visible. The front of the helmet has an extended visor whilst the back and sides also project to cover the nape of the neck and ears.
