This is a black and white group portrait of ten Australian soldiers. They are in tent lines. They are in uniform, casually dressed with only one soldier wearing a hat, that is the neat and tidy young officer in centre rear, A Lewis MMG is on its bipod on the ground in front of this group. In the tent lines, in the background, another officer can be seen talking to someone in a tent. The soldier on the right is holding a set of bagpipes in the " ready" position. That is in a silvery white. The flower arrangement is an actual flap, lifting that flap is a small card. On that card is a seated British soldier in war torn trench talking to a little angel. Embarked for Basra (Iraq) via Bombay 25.7.1916. It appears he was invalided to India on 12.11.1916, does not state why. He joined the Wireless Signal Service Depot in Rawalpindi India on 2.12.1917. Embarked from Bombay to Basra 27.2.1918 as part of 1st Aust & NZ Wireless Signal Sqd and joined the unit near Baghdad on 6.4.1918. Discharged from the AIF on 7.8.1919 as medically unfit.Framed, black & white photo of SAPPER JAMES MERVYN HARVEY No 14510 1st Australian Wireless Squadron AIF.
