The text was compiled from the King James Bible; it contains 3 parts and part 2 ends with the 'Hallelujah' chorus. This book, written by Valmae Davenport, gives information on William Gladman and his descendants in Australia. William Gladman came from England to Tasmania as a convict in 1823 and came to Victoria with his wife Rhoda about 1850. In 2012 there were over 7000 family members connected in some way with the Gladman families. The noted Australia singer Marjorie Lawrence was one of these people. This book is of particular interest to Warrnambool as several branches of the Gladman family settled in the Warrnambool area. It will therefore be of particular interest to researchers. It is also a good example of a well-researched and well-written family history. This is a soft cover book of 374 pages. The cover is coloured mauve with an image of a sailing ship enclosed by an ornamental border on the front cover and an image of William Gladman on the back cover. The book has a Disclaimer page, an Acknowledgements page, Contents pages, a List of Illustrations, 21 Chapters and a Bibliography. There are many black and white photographs, maps and family trees. The inscription on the inside title page is handwritten in blue biro. Tpr Bartlett was the first casualty of the 4th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli. Tpr Bartlett enlisted on 18 August 1914 at Broadmeadows Vic and was posted to A Squadron 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment. He embarked for Egypt on HMAT Wiltshire on 19 Oct 1914 then going ashore on Gallipoli on 21 May 1915. At 8:00 pm Trooper Bartlett was struck in the stomach by either shrapnel or gunfire. His wounds were dressed and he was evacuated. He died of wounds and was buried at sea on 24 May 1915. The 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment is an ancestor unit of the modern day 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse Regiment. The Unit History Room is the custodian of its history. The book belonged to Mrs Bessie Neil, a daughter of Mr and Mrs William McKenzie who came from Scotland, possibly in the 1860s, and were employed at Glenample station, near Port Campbell. In about 1905, the Neills moved to South Africa, and the cookery book went with them. Recently Mrs Roger Pearce, formerly Lorraine Snell, who is married to a great grandson of Bessie Neill, thought it fitting that the book should be returned to this locality, and sent it to her mother, Mrs Mary Snell.
