This booklet contains the first draft of an article on Samuel Baulch’s acquisition of his property, Rose Park which was in the Macarthur/Hawkesdale district. Samuel Baulch’s parents, Francis and Ann Baulch were pioneer settlers in the Kirkstall area and Samuel worked at the Dunmore Station in the Macarthur area before purchasing the property he named Rose Park in the early 1870s. In the 1890s he acquired property in the Dunmore Estate. Samuel’s son, Stan Baulch, acquired sections of the Dunmore property after his father’s death and he named his section, Rose Park, a property to the west of the original Rose Park. This article is of historical interest and will be useful to researchers of local and family history. This is a booklet of 18 pages. It has a paper cover and the pages were originally stapled together but now have a plastic clip. The booklet has been home-produced and the material typed on a computer. This compact was owned by Rose Alice Normington, nee Lupton. She was born in Roto, NSW in 1880 and moved to Victoria with her parents and siblings when she was five years old. They settled in Barker's Creek via Castlemaine. In 1899 Rose married Maurice Normington Jnr who also lived in Barker's Creek. They had six daughters and one son. Rose Normington died in 1966. Information provided by Pam Strijder 2017 - granddaughter of Rose Normington. I think this compact would originate from early in the twentieth century, based on the fact that it contains a zipper.This compact is an example of a high-quality compact which it is thought would be widely owned by ladies early in the twentieth century.Round, black leather lady's powder compact with embroidered top. The boy in the photograph is a young Alister Clark taken some time in 1873. The photograph is included in the biography on page 23 of Alister Clark, 'Man of Roses'. As well as being active in the VRC, Alister Clark was an enthusiastic rose breeder. He developed roses suited to Australian climatic conditions and named many of them after women he knew. Looking east along the unsealed main road heading into Eltham across the concrete bridge over the Diamond Creek circa 1939. The original wooden bridge was destroyed by flood waters in 1924. This glass plate negative was used to manufacture postcards (1:1 printing) for commercial sale by the Rose Sterograph Company and its subsidiaries. George Rose founded the Rose Stereograph Company in 1880 and was joined by Herbert (Bert) Cutts in the early 20th Century. The pair formed a lifetime working partnership and strong personal friendship. Assisted by George’s two sons, Herbert George and Walter, and later by Neil Cutts, the Rose Stereograph Company continued its operations for more than 140 years. The company was initially built on stereographs, but as cinema took over and stereographs fell out of fashion, the Rose Stereograph Company developed Australia’s first commercially viable photographic postcard business. Specialising in postcards of iconic historical moments and significant landmarks, The Rose Stereograph Company became a staple of the Australian travel industry.This remarkable collection of glass plate negatives, transparencies, and postcards – arguably Australia’s most significant photography collection outside of public hands – has been passed down through the generations, surviving war, relocation, and the harsh Victorian climate. The historic Rose Stereograph collection is the culmination of George Rose’s dream of capturing and preserving precious moments in time and remains the legacy of the Rose and Cutts families. It is with great sadness that the Cutts family says goodbye to a collection that spans five generations and 140 years. Eltham swimming pool was opened in December 1936. It was located adjacent to Central Park. The small children's pool in the foreground was opened in November 1938. White net veil is gathered to a net rose on the head to a plastic comb. it is of two lengths: one short length not decorated and a double thickness full length which is decorated on the upper layer with 3.5 cm net roses attached through the net to a clear sequin.
