"St Kilda Junction looking northward as tramway roadworks near completion. Workmen are dispersing gravel to cover recently applied bitumen, perhaps from the tanker (centre). Ballast Motor 11 pushes a ballast trailer ahead of W2 571 to St Kilda Beach and a second car to East Malvern. A horse drawn tower wagon (left), heavy roller (foreground) and private motor vehicles stand by. On the Punt Road corner is a petrol station advertising a then popular brand, Atlantic Ethyl, advertising Ford cars. In 1948 Purcell began building the new Stubley Motors, working round the old site to keep the business operating. It was completed in 1951. McMillan Garage for motor repairs. The boot repair section was rented by Laurie Kelly, then 308 Barkly Street. After World War 2 it became home of PMGBlack and white photograph of two men wearing aprons and standing at a work bench with tools. A docket featuring a shoe and a business address for L. This is a list of subscribers to the Sunbury & District Bush Fire Brigade Fund raising funds to buy a motor truck. They ere raising funds between the years 1941 to 1943. The subscribers came from all over the district Clarkefield, Diggers Rest, Tullamarine, Sunbury and Yuroke and every where in-between. Photo of the Mail Exchange Building with a cable tram loading prior to departure and a number of motor vehicles. The photo shows the monumental construction for the then Post Master Generals Department. This artefact originates from a petroleum company which operated in Victoria from 1933 until 1945. The Alba Petroleum Company of Australia Pty. Ltd. was established by P. J. Adams and A.G. Wales. They had distribution facilities in the industrial estate of Newport in Victoria and also marketed to South Australia and Tasmania. Their advertising during World War 11 emphasised the need to keep petrol profits in Australia. They claimed to have the largest independent bulk storage unit in Australia. They pioneered the use of tar alcohol which was blended with "standard motor spirit to produce a super fuel. They were marketers of ALBA Super, the Aviation Quality Spirit containing Australian produced alcohol, ALBA motor spirit, ALBA power kerosene and ALBALITE lighting kerosene. In 1945 after the war ended, ALBA was incorporated with the Australian Motorists Petrol Company, which in turn, became AMPOL Petroleum Ltd in 1949.This artefact is representative of an Australian innovative company and a product which was widely used on a local, state and national level for industrial and domestic applications.A cylindrical steel/metal can for petrol storage and transfer. Eltham District Historical Society IncDocument - Award Certificate, Eltham Community Festival, Festival Parade Award Presented to Shire of Eltham Historical Society for Best Display, 1986
1986: 7-9 November. New Banner, Ben Hall coach and vintage cars The 1986 festival was held from 7th to 9th November with the parade will be held at noon on Saturday, November 8th. The "float" consisted of Ben Hall's Cobb & Co. coach and several vintage motor vehicles. Society members were dressed in Victorian era for those riding in the coach and 1920s fashion for those in the motor vehicles. A further feature of the parade was the use of the Society banner which had been created that year. The Society's entry in the Eltham Community Festival parade included Ben Hall's Cobb and Co. coach and was awarded the major prize for the parade. This involved the presentation of a perpetual trophy which the Society held for one year. However, it was the last time the trophy was awarded and remains in the Society's collection. The trophy was replaced in 1987 with a Best Display award which again was won by the Society, and again in 1988. Lorne Historical SocietyTool - Cirkut Panoramic Camera Number 5, Circa 1915
This camera was designed by William Johnston in 1904. Production began in 1905. There were many versions, the number indicated the length of film which corresponds to the width of the panorama. Originally designed for photography of large groups of people. Later it was used for landscapes. This camera was used by the local Lorne photographer William Anderson who took photographs of visitors and local scenes. William purchased Norman Brown’s photographic business in December 1899 and worked in Lorne until his death in 1948It is a large format rotating panoramic camera. A concertinaed fine leather tube with the adjustable lens is contained in a black wooden leatherette covered rectangular box. On the top is a metal winding handle, a series of weights and a carrying handle. The lens is a Gundlach - Manhattan rapid recto graph. The camera rotates on a geared tripod through 360 degrees with the film driven past the exposure slot by a clock work motor.cameras, lorne, william anderson, -

Donated to Museum by an autistic young man, who as a boy would play at the museum toy tram tables. He donated it so that other young boys could play with it.
